The MOST elite guy who was slow was JCC, he had everything but the blinding speed. good instincts, great ducking, good power, granite chin, but lets be honest when you look at the speed of some of the guys he fought, Gamache, Camacho, Taylor, Sweet Pea, Mayweather, even Oscar, he had nowhere near that hand or foot speed. Yet he was not really embarassed by any of those guys except the first Oscar fight and Sweet Pea, so he was the slowest super elite guy, he just knew what to do and it worked

Nowadays Cotto is like that, but he looked like lightning against Gomez, its all relative.

I think hagler was really fast for a middleweight, just not as fast as Hearns, Leonard, Benitez, Pryor, etc, the other marque guys of his era.

 

No, it just compensates for slowness with a resolute enough approach.
