Unfortunately, no. I'm not as good at finding old fight films as others here are. But I'm hoping this one turns up as it would be a heckuva score for all of us:smoke

Klompton has found some wildly obscure stuff. I've been frankly amazed at some of the films he's exhumed. He's a pugilistic spelunker and if anyone here can find this one, tis he.

 

I dont really have more info on the fight. Clay is actually the one who pointed it out to me. I never actively pursued because there isnt a whole lot of information to go on in regards to the film.

In the classic words of Sherlock Holmes: "DATA!, DATA!, DATA!, I cannot make bricks without clay!" I have found mention of tons of early fights that were filmed but without much more than the fact that they were filmed its very difficult to track them down. In some instances a local promoter or manager would have paid the expense to have a fight filmed just to exhibit it at a local theatre (pretty neat I think, but very expensive for that era). In such a situation its unlikely that there was more than one print made of the film making the chances of survival not very good unless the person who owned it actually saw value in the film past its initial run and preserved it as such, this rarely happened. Most of the time these old films were as disposable as the fighters featured in them. Once they had stopped drawing crowds there wasnt much use for them. Or at least that seems to have been the prevailing feeling. Film was such a new art form. The idea of preservation was unique and rare.

A VERY early Aussie film, "The Sentimental Bloke", was thought lost. However, it was found in the USA. Located in an archive under the Americanised title "The Sentimental Blonde".

Why the change of title?? Simple. Americans have/had no understanding of the term 'bloke', and thus changed the title.

Langford vs McVea in Oz was filmed. Fight film posters were circulated.

Perhaps Klompy will trade for the Griffo footage??
