Currently the 8 rounder between Edmund Gerber and Zack Page is at the halfway mark. This content is protected
Round 5 Page is doing his usual spoiling, throwing gnat-bite hooks as he circles Gerber and showcases his lean-and-roll defense with his hands down and chin up in the air. Page is landing his jabs as he turns Gerber. They hook together while spinning, and Gerber only just grazes Page but makes him blink. Page keeps circling out, ducks under a jab and thrusts his forearm into Gerber's throat. Big 1-2 by Gerber, but it is caught on the gloves as Page tilts back from it, and doesn't do much damage. Page might have won that, but the judges probably saw Edmund stealing it at the end.
Round 6 Page jabs and dances on the outside, doing a lot of hopping. Gerber just stares him down, then shuffles forward heel to toe with his left arm held straight down at his side. Gerber up-jabs as he closes in on Page but can't fasten him down. Page is staying just at the end of everything he throws. A 1-2 does clip him on the chin as he skirts away.
Round 7 Gerber is a bit more aggressive now, throwing his 1-2 a bit harder to try and reach all the way through to Page's elusive bramble of short braids. Gerber is leaping in and throwing a good deal more jabs now. Page is getting caught with the right and not doing as much of his cutie act of dancing around and countering. Gerber round.
Kessler vs who? Looks like Kessler is officially getting personal advice from Calzaghe on who to fight.
Round 8 Page steps in, feints, and then backpedals to parry a hard Gerber jab. Gerber keeps working the 1-2 deliberately and finally scores a knockdown with it as Page was drifting along laterally past the ropes! Page beats the count and starts to move in a wide arc around Gerber, staying low and flicking some jabs to the body. They collide and smash heads as Page is trying to flop into a clinch while Gerber is winding up a punch. They touch gloves, no disrespect. They do come right back together a moment later though. The ref warns both to mind their heads. Hard left hooks to the body by Gerber. Clubbing shots across the back of the neck as Page ducks. Gerber stalks and jabs while Page uses the full ring to get away. A right hand to the body is followed by one upstairs as Page is pushed to the ropes. Page fleeing and clinching now. 10-8 Gerber
Typical Page performance. He did just about enough to lose but make the other guy look awful at times. Gerber does have serious power. Page isn't easy to drop and that was a very legitimate knockdown.
80-70 on all three cards for Gerber. I guess there must have been two knockdowns then (one in the first half)....or a point deduction from Zack.
Damn, nice KO by Kim Poulsen. He got Tarik Sahibeddine in trouble with a big left hook to the jaw during a fiery piston-like exchange - then just pounded away on him against the ropes until he crumpled in a heap, barely able to thrust himself back up and in no shape to continue. Sahibeddine's face is a mess of ground meat. TKO3.
It should be starting soon. There are only 1 or 2 more undercard bouts, a 6 and 8 rounder. They're currently showing Froch vs. Taylor as filler right now.
Wow. I just read a report, Page was actually down three times against Gerber (but the referee failed to rule one of them).
