More like one and a half. The replay of Froch-Taylor (with Polish commentary, very interesting :yep) is entering the 10th round. Of course we know it will ultimately go deep into the 12th...so we're watching this for the next ten minutes. Then probably the last two undercard bouts (8 and 6 rounds). Then shortly after that ring walks and anthems for Kessler-Bouadla. If the undercard bouts don't go the distance they'll probably show some more filler to kill time.
We are back in action! :happy Kasper Bruun vs. Jay "Isle of Wight Assassin" Morris - 6 rounds @ 140lbs.
Round 1 Morris leads with a big right hand, and Bruun ceases his rush on a dime. Bruun leans back in for another attempted attack but is stopped short with a left hook. Now Bruun settles down and begins to circle, blocking and countering the odd slow 1-2 from Morris. Bruun jabs, hooks off the jab and throws a quick but weak right hand that folds at the wrist like a wet noodle against Morris' gloves. Morris is throwing his hard right hands, falling short as Bruun keeps circling quickly. Morris is more successful with the short left hook when he steps inside. Bruun leads with a straight right hand and drives it straight through the gloves and onto the chin of Morris. Were he not leaning over and overreaching that may have been a very powerful shot; as it is Morris takes it without issue. 1-2 to the body by Bruun. Clinch, and Bruun gets a finger wagged in his face for rough stuff inside. 10-9 Bruun
22:45 Exactly one hour from now. After the 6 rounder in progress (first round just now ended) there is an 8 rounder. Then the pageantry for the main event.
Round 2 Bruun hooks wide; Morris ducks it and throws his own wide hook to the body and they wind up with their arms around each other, Morris at Bruun ' thighs in a near headlock. Morris is leading with hatchet rights, getting countered with hooks to the body and right hands to the neck over the top. Bruun is mush busier with both sets of limbs, but Morris looks to be the bigger hitter and the one throwing with meaner intentions. Bruun keeps circling out and landing jabs and quick flurries. Morris is pounding his way in with fully loaded right hands and hitting the shell. 20-18 Bruun but the rounds are close. Morris is in this fight.
I find it easier at some times than others to respect Scar's opinions. It depends on who/what he's talking about. :yep There are certain topics where it's just...yeah. More polite to just not comment. Let's just say he can be objective and insightful...except when he can't be.
Scar is usually a very insightful and knowledgeable poster, dunno what his problem is with Mikkel Kessler.
Round 3 Bruun is throwing lots of weak shots, jabs and uppercuts as he meets the rushes of Morris. Bruun is clinching on the inside, throwing little flurries that don't bother the IOW Assassin. Morris tries to now jab his way in rather than relying on his powerful right hand lead. Morris gets through a bit but is countered with a solid hook to the temple delivered by Bruun on the back foot. Bruun is circling right, then left, faking Morris out and hooking at him from mid-range. Right hand over the top by Bruun, lands right between the eyes. Morris gets inside and has his head pushed down and wrapped under Bruun's arm. 30-27 Bruun All rounds have been close.
I'm sure you know already, IB. But I do appreciate all the RBR work you've done over the years, a true legend you are sir. :cheers
Round 4 They flurry together, with Morris landing some short stingers high and low but having his face flooded with the quicker and weaker blows of Bruun. Morris keeps advancing, and taking backfoot flurries on the guard. Bruun loops his right hand over the top once more to connect clean. Bruun shoves Morris off as they lean together and throws an errant 1-2. Morris is jabbing to the body and falling in behind blind overhand rights with his head bowed down. Morris walks into a stiff jab but disregards it and works the body with both hands. Bruun flurries away with left and right uppercuts as Morris tries to lean into him and smash away at his flanks. A few good body shots by Morris, but not enough to take the round from the stat-jacking Bruun (who's utilizing a style more suited to the amateurs, emphasizing "touches" over significant punishment). 40-36
