They're both going to lose their big money fight to Cotto or Pacquiao or whichever other in-house fighter Arum chooses to beat him. But theoretically speaking, I think Martinez having the diamond belt and being champion emeritus takes precedence over Rubio's mandatory status and gives him first crack.
chavez got a gift tonite. zbik outlanded him significantly. it was a set-up fight in southern cal. rubio is licking his chops.. sergio would destroy this kid.
its astounding that a fighter like chavez jr can win a world title and have a record of about 50-0 (or whatever it is), without having beat a single dangerous world class fighter. not too long ago the titles were held by the likes of, ray robinson, carlos monzon, marvin hagler, ray leonard and tommy hearns. how far we have fallen, now a middleweight belt is held by a man who's main claim to fame (and selling point) is that he is the son of a once great fighter.
I don't think Team Chavez will let Jr fight Martinez after his performance against Zbik tonight. Martinez will eat Jr alive.
Martinez would eat him alive regardless of what kind of performance JCC jr. showed against Zbik. If/when Martinez starts making a lot of noise about challenging JCC jr. for his belt, I don't think he can say no.
There is no way that Arum puts Chavez Jr in there with Martinez anytime soon, if ever. I have a hard time even seeing him in there with Rubio, because Rubio can punch and anyone can land on Jr. Jr's chin has held up well against light punchers(that hit him a lot) but he really hasn't faced a guy with solid one shot power.
Martinez by WBC rules has the right to challenge the 'regular champion' whenever he likes. That is unfortunately only in the Official WBC Rulebook which doesn't worth **** when Don Jose Sulaiman thinks otherwise. Dear Lord why did't Rocchigiani finish of this corrupt organization for good? Can you imagine the impact on boxing if he did? With one organization destroyed for own shady moves the other 3 would've been scared to **** to pull anything disgraceful. But as we are now, with the WBC still paying Rocchigiani I believe, they created all the interim, silver, diamon, emeritus, all that **** and others follow.
I agree with the consensus, Martinez and Rubio will destroy Chavez. The kid has no skill, no power, not much anything. He outweighed Zbik by 15lbs and still got backed up the whole fight. I feel sorry for Freddy Roach knowing that he has to drive a car that's going to crash. Bob will make Cotto-Chavez. Originally I was picking Chavez to win that fight being how shot and small Cotto is, but now I might give the edge to Cotto.
Rubio would ko jcc jr. he gets hit with everything that comes at him, but like canelo arum will only feed him guys who cant punch. Neither guy became champ the hard or honorable way. Arum cleared the easiest path for them. But like all fighters who are matched carefully in the end it will catch up with them, usually in the form of taking a beating. But dont expect jr to defend against his mandatories if they have over a 30% ko ratio
Send that memo to Felix Sturm who has been middleweight champion since the beginning of time without facing an opponent.
Yeah but it's not like the rules are strictly implemented. They make it up as they go along. Bob Arum's $$$ will ensure that Chavez is forced to fight Martinez.
If I was handling Chavez Jr. I'd put him inside the ring ASAP w/Cotto or Rubio. (Depending how those fights end up, Then a Martinez fight) I like how Sergio became "Julian Jackson-esqe" with the power since the Williams fight. Boxing fans need to put that -0- **** behind them & understand fighter's win/lose it's what they do.
