You're discussing heavyweight resumes. I'm just talking career achievement and the gap is clear. Quite frankly i'll take an old Gibbons and Dempsey over 2nd raters like Bonavena and Cooper anyday. I'm aware of Dempsey's prime thank you very much.

What are you trying to accomplish here? Are you implying that Tunney was somehow hiding a shaky chin or mental weakness in his whole career? If you are, good luck with that man. I'm not going to make lists for you. Why does Tunney need a resume against big heavyweights? His opponent is Floyd Patterson not Riddick ****ing Bowe. It's not relevant to this match up at all. As for the black fighters thing... **** off with that. Wills turned down Tunney so I don't know what you're going after here.

    Agendas for miles.

Well, that suggests a weak division, doesn't it ?
Moore had recently been beaten up savagely by Marciano.

A prime Patterson never fought the two best boxers of his division while he was champion. He feasted on bums. the first real class man he fought beat the **** out of him twice.

    bro

I like Tunney here, styles. About the same in terms of class of HW.

As for the argument about resume, I like Patterson.

A lot of great fighters would have been beaten up "savagely" by Marciano. What's your point? Moore just defeated skilled powerful 6'3 210lb top contenders Bob Baker and Nino Valdes to earn his # 1 ranking. Moore definitely has a better heavyweight resume than Tunney, eclipsing 80 fights at heavyweight compared to Tunney's 8.

I agree Floyd has a better heavyweight resume, and I think his career after he lost the title redeemed his somewhat lack lustre title reign. Fine boxer ,and a gentleman, I just think Tunney beats him.

My point was that to become the heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson had to beat Archie Moore, the light-heavyweight champion, who had been severely beaten by the heavyweight champion .... and that's quite fortunate for Patterson.

The fact that Moore had remained "number 1 contender" after Marciano had beaten him only suggests that the HW division was experiencing a famine of viable contenders.
To take a thrashing from the champion and go straight back into the #1 contender slot absolutely suggests that - unless they are just shitty ratings.

Patterson never lost to a man his own size/build.
Tunney once lost to a smaller Greb and then KOd by an equally sized Dempsey.
On top of all , Tunney retired at a younger age with yet less impressing resume.
Most if not all of Tunney's "wins" were against defensive "wizards" (meaning : professional clinchers) like himself. Patterson outpointed men who came to fight.
    I think it's quite clear .
Tunney gets the praise , Ruiz gets no respect.

Tunney waas no more "ko'ed" by Dempsey than was Douglas "ko'ed" by Tyson...both were involved in long count controversies, but neither man was truly "ko'ed"..in Tunney's case I believe he could have gotten up before the 10 count, but he took advantage of the confusion provoked by the new officiating rules and did the smart thing, actually.

I do agree tunney could have got up before the count reached 10. He did take advantage of it. However...fact remains he was still down for 14 seconds.
