Boxing needs American stars to continue being big in America, it's that simple. A few foreign guys have gone down well there, Duran, Pac, a few others but generally Americans aren't particularily interested in oreign fighters. With less Americans at the top of the sport and even fewer on them being entertaining or charismatic it really needs a new American star to keep the sport relevant there. Boxing's doing good elsewhere in the world but it's pretty obvious it's shrivelling in the U.S.
I'm not saying we need to have a savior, but some people like to have a prominent American fighter. Just wondering if Ward can be that guy, since I'm not sure who else it's going to be going forward. Personally, it's not a big deal to me.

No! First and foremost because Ward doesn't have a "sexy" punch. You know, a punching style where even the casual fan goes "Wow!!". A savior IMHO has to have great punching style like for example SRL, Ali, Hagler, Gatti, etc., etc.. Also, the masses don't want to see a slapper or soft-puncher no matter how athletic and ring-intelligent he might be. They want bang for the dollar (sorry for the wording.).
THe only way boxing is "saved" I presume you mean not a niche sport again. Is if we get an exciting heavyweight with knockout power. Then the public at large will care again. Ward is incredibly skilled, but doesnt have the attitude of a Floyd Mayweather who MADE the public take notice to get to that level. He's too humble.
No, he isn't. His style isn't very fun to watch. He's got all the tools in the shed, yet he fights very safe, doesn't take much risk, and doesn't seem vulnerable. We'll see how the Froch fight goes, but if he doesn't put on a spectacle, he'll have a real problem getting public notoriety in the US at this point anyway.
Ward doesn't seem very marketable personality wise - but he is as yet undefeated and will remain so throughout the Super Six Classic.
no now we have Pacquiao giving attention and better fights. Back in 06 and 07,, thats when you had more ******* talking about boxing was dead and MMA will take over, but we proved them wrong
