I don't want to hate on JCC Jr, but I find it hard to accept he is a world champion. His level of ability is by no means useless, but put him in against Maravilla, even the likes of Alvarez in a few years, and he dies a death in a few punishing rounds. Far too easy to hit, he didn't even seem to have the power to hold off Zbik, imagine him against Pirog, or any other 'world' champion. :rasta

    Fair assessment.

Jr left a lot to be desired. The number of mistakes he made in the ring was unbelievable. ON the other hand, he is still a young fighter and most of the flaws he displayed can be corrected.

Good for JCC Jr.-:good The kid has the ultimate pressure and he's handling things nicely. He'll never be his father and he probably won't have the legacy his pops left boxing, but as young as this kid is and with the trainer and conditioning coach he has...don't be surprised if JCC Jr begins to show massive improvements over the next few years.... The kid isn't even 25 yet..he's got a lot of experience under his belt and he's re-dedicated himself to the sport. I hoping for the best for Jr.

I don't see how you can watch that fight and ever walk away wondering if he is a chump. Chavez won the WBC title. Clearly he isn't THE CHAMP, but he certainly isn't a chump. I felt that he won the fight. The punishment that he put on Zbik was should count a lot more than the feather dusting that Zbik had coming back.

:good Good post......But you realize what JCC Jr gets so much criticism. He's the son of a legend. he'll never get respect easy, but he can eventually EARN it the hard way if he is able to ignore the haters and continue to work hard in etching out his own legacy.

Dude, I live in Mexico. I have seen some of his interviews. After the Vanda fight, right in the ring, he said he might retire, he had to evaluate it, that it might not be for him (boxing). His father was as a commentator for TVAZteca and as soon as he heard that he went: "well, Julito had a hard... WTF..." He left the mike and went to lecture the kid.

Don't talk about things you don't know. I read and see more about Mexican boxing than you will ever do.

I felt he won the fight, but did so against a guy that hit him all night long with little to no power on his punches. If he climbs in the ring with a guy that can bang, he'll likely get that piece of title taken away in brutal fashion.

He's definitely not the fighter his dad was by a long shot, but I give him credit for getting in there and pursuing a career in the brutal sport of boxing. He's not some poor kid that struggled his whole life by doing without many things. Being the son of an ATG former champ, he had a real nice childhood growing up and likely didn't want for much.

It must be your biased Cuban perspective that makes it look like your always talking out your ass!

There are great Mexican fighters now, like JMM, and tough dudes like Salido for whom I have nothing but appraisal, and there are bums like Jr., whom, if it weren't for his father, we wouldn't even know.
