Technically he is already "Championship quality". I personally never expected Jr to be considered a top ten in his weight class and he's already accomplished that along with a belt to boot so as far as I'm concerned anything beyond that is pure frosting for him.
I gotta say...I kinda became a Chavez Jr fan last night. He's never going to reach the heights his father did, or ever crack anyone's P4P list, but he's entertaining to watch when he fights the way he did against Zbik.
So, how he fought against Zbik? I saw him losing the bout 115-113, the fight went as I expected because Zbik landed a ton of punches as I expected, Chavez Jr. got tired as always, but his body punching saved him from a loss on the cards. I still think the same things I taught of him prior to the fight.
The guy maybe a raw fighter but he won his belt by his guts . . . he is a champ whether you like it or not.
My point is the fight was was entertaining and Chavez Jr showed some fire and put on a good show, whether you think he won or not. We boxing fans get so ****ing jaded sometimes that we can't actually enjoy a fight because we're all closet conspiracy theorists who always think the fix was in. I didn't score the fight but it was very close and could have gone either way. I do think Chavez Jr did more damage, even as he landed fewer punches.
yea no ****, thank you! He was out landed by like what? 120? ANYWAY you put it that is a win for Zbik, even if his feet stopped moving his hands never did!
He didn't put up a good show, Zbik did way better than most expected, and that's why the fight became interesting. Yes Chavez showed some fire, he always does and always gets tired. I never said anything about conspiracy, and yes he did more damage, that was expected. He is still a C fighter.
What does any of that have to do with putting on a good show? Who said he was an elite fighter? The fact is it was a good, entertaining back and forth scrap and therefore a good show.
he is a work in progress good not great has stuff to work on and perfect but he has time and is not at a loaded weight class he can defend the hell out of that WBC title against ok comp while developing if he fully developes and stays undefeated and confident he could become a great fighter
no one is saying he's the man at 160, ****..relax y'all, the kid just picked up a title.....it aint like anyone that picks up a title in any division is right away considered the man, unless of course he beats the man...which rarely happens anyways, so quit hating on the kid.....
He's an okay fighter that would get horribly and ruthlessly outclassed by Pirog, let alone Martinez. I respect he's got some talent, a good punch and lots of will. But that's it. Not bad. not great.
