You are the one not understanding how boxing works in America. When a TV network make fighters sign a contract with them, they ARE, de facto, promoters, because they are the one deciding of who will fight who. Can Bute fight Froch this fall, even if his promoter and Interbox want to fight eachother? No, because they signed a contract with Showtime. The super 6 winner is with Showtime, Bute is also with Showtime. You just have to make a link in your head. All your dreams won't change that fact. If Kessler wants to be sure to face the super 6 winner, there is an easy way: to face Bute gives him an automatic shot.
Showtime are NOT promotors! They supply a part of the purse if they choose to exercise one of the options they have on that particular fighter. They can also choose NOT to exercise that right which is what they most probably did for the Mendy fight. So Showtime decides nothing, but they can choose to pay for a fight offered to them or they can elect not to. So Showtime has options on particular fighters, but it's the fighters promotor that negotiaties the fights. It's not really rocket science. EDIT: As for your rumblings on Bute-Froch the point is not that Froch is signed by Showtime per se but rather that he signed a contract to compete in a tournament called the supersix world boxing classic.
It works like that only if you're not under a multiple fights deal. Showtime decides everything in the case of Bute. The mandatory fight was a possibility included in the contract. It is the only one. Beside that fight, Showtime must approve each of his opponent. He could not fight otherwise. Like it or not, if Showtime has an option (and several promoters have talked about it indirectly) on the super 6 winner, it means they have the power to decide who will face who because they only have to say "no" and any fight the promoters would have signed would be void... unless the parties involved want to be pursued. Things don't work the same way in Europe than in North America. In Europe, the TV networks sign a contract and let the promoters decide everything. Unfortunately for Sauerland, Ward and Showtime are not based in Europe. Like you say, it's not a rocket science... but you have to know the right facts. There are many threads on the forum (it's not because I don't write on them that I don't read them) on that subject. i personnally think that sometimes it goes too far (especially HBO) but it is the reality. Money talks and in USA, the attendance is not what gives the money.
the showtime excuse has the bute nuthuggers continuing to issue excuses for his lack of fighting real competition. oh wait maghee and mendy are real Hofers lol
laffie, what is hard to understand? Kessler is the WBC emeritus champion, he'll get to fight for the WBC after the tournament is over if he wants to. And if he were to fight Stiegltiz beforehand, he could unify titles doing so. Are you really that daft?
Have you ever heard and undestood the word contract? If Kessler fights Stieglitz and Ward wins the super 6, Ward will have to decide between: a) Fight Bute and try to convince the WBC to wait one fight before facing Kessler. If the WBC doesn't accept, drop the WBC belt and try to unify the WBA and the IBF titles. b) Fight Kessler, keep the WBC and WBA titles and get pursued by Showtime. Which scenario would he choose? I don't have a single second of hesitation. In USA, Ward has nothing to gain in facing Kessler again. For many fans in USA, Kessler is shot. If Kessler faces Bute and wins, that changes everything. If Froch wins the super 6, things are different because Froch wants a rematch with Kessler badly and the fight makes sense in Europe. Showtime still has an option on the winner and could block the fight. Kessler can not be sure of fighting the super 6 winner unless he fights Bute first.
One last time and then I quit. Showtime are NOT promotors. In practic the promotor likely sends a shortlist of possible opponents to Showtime who'll then say who is ok and who is not ok. They do not tell who a certain fighter should fight. It is so that money talks and if Showtime has obligated themselves to pay 2M USD for a Bute-fight it is clear that this forms a large percentage of the revenue generated for the fight and as such gives Interbox the ability to attract some big names to Bute, but at the same time they are interested in paying as little as possible to the visiting fighter to maximize their profit. The vicepresident of Showtime yesterday also said to danish media that he hoped for a Bute-Kessler showdown in the fall but he also said THAT IT WAS UP TO THE PROMOTORS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Well no excuses now, Supersix is coming to a halt alot of good operators available.... More the question, will he ever fight out of montreal........ :happy
Read my post again. What is being said here is: KESSLER IS THE WBC EMERITUS CHAMPION. Nothing more, nothing less.. he can and probably will fight for the WBC title as soon as the tournament finale is at an end, period and the end. Showtime are not promotors, they are not owners of the four big organizations. WBC and Jose Sulaiman have ordered Mikkel the WBC champ emeritus as he vacated the title after defeating Carl Froch, regardless of who wins the finale, Kessler has the right to force a fight for the WBC. Now, should Ward win he could drop the belt and fight someone else, but I personally don't see it happening. Froch as we all know, view Bute as non relevant.
I'd put money on a Kessler win. TKO win in the 10th. His performance against Froch showed his high intensity skills which I feel Bute will struggle against.
