Attaining a world title isn't much of an achievement these days is it? As long as you're with the right promoter any half decent boxer can beat a gatekeeper for a vacant title.

 

Cleverly was gifted his title but what more can he do when the "champion" wont fight him.

David Haye. How he managed to get more than a draw away to Valuev is beyond me, something tells me Valuev was handed back his title with the guarantee that he would not win on points during his next fight against Haye who was signed by the same company.

Margarito was a top ten fighter when Pac fought him. He wasn't gifted the title in the same way the boxers I mentioned were.

Considering there are 17 divisions there should never be more than 17 champions. Never more than 1 in a division.

By my count there are only 4 champions today.

I know what you mean but even if there aren't undisputed title holders in other divisions, there are worthy title holders who have fought tough opposition, even if they haven't fought the #2 to determine who is #1.

Then there are fighters who have been just handed titles. Gennady Golovkin is another, which is more down to Sturm ducking him by being made superchamp. Nevertheless, he was gifted his title.

 

Well he shouldn't have been. Who has he beaten? His best win is Domenico Spada. One he barely scraped by.

 

Good thread, but the list doesnt exclude the mighty Pacman either. Ill always route for the little warrior, but they want to portray him as a giant slayer which is fine with me, but tge only real threat was Clottey who might if been a decent champ at 147. Margo and Shane as the world knows are close to being shot fighters even if both were top 10 in their division.

 

canelo was by far the worst.

i am too lazy to look ot up but i don't think hatton ever fought at 154, let alone for a championship.
