Most of the guys who Jones supposedly ducked wanted a kings ransom to face him. Eubank is down on record as saying he'd only fight Jones, if Jones was his mandatory and turned the fight down before Jones was big and in 1998. Benn wanted 15million and Jones couldnt get him without signing a contract with King anyway. The McClellan fight was discussed and may have happened if GMAN got past Benn. Darius wouldn't come out of Germany, Calzaghe was in no man's land. Hopkins ducked the rematch in 02. Toney may have got a rematch if he got past Griffin, but he didn't. Liles turned down good money

What hurts Jones legacy the most is the politics, promoters wanting a piece of him when he wanted to be self managed and the fact most boxers thought they'd lose. Benn is on record as saying 'I didn't think I stood a chance of beating him but I wanted the 15million'. I wouldn't be half suprised if Toney was weight drained because he didn't give himself much of a shot against Jones and hence didn't train. When you look at what he did to common opponents of Toney/Benn its pretty obvious he's a couple levels above both

Course I was. Eubank was calling for him at this point and Nunn was his number-one contender.

Yeah, not sure if that was a joke or not. Stupid if you ask me. Jones never ducked anyone.

I don't remember this at all. What exactly happened?

I remember after Jones won a match, forgot against who, and Merchant asked who he would fight next since Eubank just lost to Steve Collins. Jones gave Merchant a look  and was surprised at the news.

Eubank called for Jones and Toney in his comeback in '96, and continued calling for Jones in '97.

Eubank says Jones didn't want to fight him.

What fighters had he beat to make that a serious challenge?

I've read allot of Eubank quotes and haven't come across this. In '98 he was offered fights with Jones Jr and Darius but decided to fight Thompson instead.

No way did he call out TOney in 96 because Toney was begging for fights around that time and Eubank avoided Toney for years.

Eubank was offered a Jones fight in mid-'99, and Michalczewski fight post-Thompson II in '98. He was also offered a Griffin fight many times in the period between Collins and Calzaghe. I don't know on the Toney thing but Eubank definitely called for him (along with Jones) when he announced his comeback.

Bokaj son, Eubank was Eubank, an infinitely more dangerous opponent and bigger money generator than Jones opponents. I'm not saying Jones should've fought him in '97 - he'd of been mad to and Eubank would've felt like he'd won the lottery. But the fact is Eubank called for it and wanted it.

He should've fought Nunn however when he was made mandatory, instead of giving up the belt to avoid him. Jones officially ducked Nunn - that's a fact.

Eubank only wanted Jones in '97 because he wanted one last big money deal. He just lost twice to Collins, why the hell would Jones want to fight Eubank then.

Jones and Eubank used to talk on the phone in the early 90's i'm guessing '93? Jones used to ask Eubank if he would give him a chance at his belts but Chris always declined, saying Jones wasn't a big name at the time.
