Some pretty interesting insights on Atlas, Cus, the fallout after Cus's death http://sports.yahoo.com/video/player/news/Graham_Bensinger_InDepth/25403802
It seems noone ever asks the guy the right questions. I think it would be nice to get some insight into his mindset over the years in regards to boxing, and every interview wants to focus on the BS in his life.
True. Its always the same issues, the marriage, the ****, the earbite etc etc I wish people would ask him other questions like how he felt about Bowe, Foreman. WHat he though of Tua Why he fought bums after Holyfield etc
Well we know why fought bums after Holyfield. $$ I do think Finkel at one point was trying to get Tyson back into shape and in real title contention, but Tyson kept screwing it up.
I feel Tyson knew he had nothing left in the tank after the Holyfield fight, thats why he was beating bums and just looking for some paydays.
Not really. Tyson had plenty left. He was only 30 years old. He just didnt want to box, but he had so much debt he had to fight. If you saw how he spent money it would make your head spin, but his fights generated so much money promoters and managers fell for it. Tyson knew exactly what he was doing. He would take advantage of the people who were trying to take advantage of him. Thats why he punched out frnk. warrn told him he could go to Europe and buy whatever he wanted so Tyson went and picked up a million dollar watch. When wreen (they wont let me write his name without** it out) refused to pay for it, he punched him out. Tyson still had the talent. He was still killing 90's heavies at half speed. He supposedly did next to no training for Golota besides running on a treadmill but was still in somewhat decent physical condition from his prior fight. Clearly he didnt train for Brian Nielson at all coming in at 239 pounds. He just didnt want to fight, but he still had a lot of talent. When your mind isnt in it, it's difficult to go out and get punched in the face.
Sorry thats what i meant, emotionally/mentally his tank was empty. I dont think he had the mindset to rule the division or win another title or care about legacy. He whooped Golotas a$$. In fact Tyson beat all of his mutual opponents with Bowe, much better than Bowe did (except Holyfield) He def had the talent and the physical attributes, its the emotional/motivation/desire or whatever which was missing. I believe he never wanted to fight after coming out of prison. He won a couple of titles, got overexcited and then Holyfield bought him to reality and after that he crumbled. I think a lot of burden was always placed on Tyson. If Mike Tyson doesnt KO someone and goes the distance or if Mike Tyson loses it becomes a big deal. If Holyfield loses, no one batters an eyelid. I think sometimes the "destroyer type" fighters like Tyson, Liston, Foreman get sold short, because if they do anything except KO someone, it becomes a big issue.
Tyson got really animated regarding Teddy Atlas. I've never seen or heard him talk about that "situation" before. I really wish I could attend the Hall of Fame ceremonies this weekend.
