Why's that? Ortiz isn't even a genuine southpaw, Pac has a better chin, faster hands and is far trickier. The way Ortiz fights, he might as well be a righty....as it is, HE IS! ;-)
Manny didn't want none of Ortiz. Instead of fighting a legit welterweight champion he's fighting a lightweight.
'Legit Welterweight champion' atsch What, for beating Berto, one of the most undeserving 'champions' OF ALL TIME??!? Funnily enough, your avatar sums you up perfectly :good
Awww, you're jokin', sorry pal, thought you were one of those types :good People need to remember; Berto wasn't that good, and Ortiz was vulnerable and lacked the minerals at 140. He's a perfect warm-up for Floyd leading into his next exile :deal
Put it this way, Ortiz will make the fight closer with Mayweather than Marquez could, that fool got schooled like he was amature!
Ortiz is not the easiest challenge for a little guy fighting at 147. Happy for him though...only a year ago his career seemed nearly over when he messed up the fight against Peterson, now he's got a fight against the one of the sports biggest cash cows...it's amazing how much one fight can turn a boxers career around!
Floyd wins this easy. As I said in another thread: First 6 rounds will be competitive due to Floyd's inactivity plus Ortiz is a fast starter, but after that I would be surprised if Floyd dropped a round. Floyd to win by 10 rounds to 2.
Be interesting to see if Floyd still has his speed. He's been getting a bit slower but I think he still had enough speed against Mosley to beat Pacquiao. Since then, though, who knows?
With how open Ortiz is to the right hand, and how fast, sharp and accurate Floyd is with it, I'd be very unimpressed if Floyd didn't get rid of him. Of course though, he doesn't need to ;-) Floyd will have the exact kind of output that will see Ortiz revert back to his 140 days. The kid is gonna' get battered....or taake some sharp pot shots while he chases Floyd all night.
Ortiz defo needs to make the most out of his Southpaw stance, was way to square on against Berto. i think he can make the fight Competive for the first half of the fight and IMO got enough pop to trouble Floyd, just my opinion of cause
As you say, he doesn't need to get rid of Ortiz. I'm sure that he could stop the fight but he would rather take the risk-free route to victory. I think we'll see Ortiz run out of ideas by the 5th or 6th round at which point he will be satisfied with not getting hit. It will be very similar to the Mosley fight in terms of entertainment.
