Of course it is. because this is not what I am saying.

what I am saying is that Tyson could not fire on all cylinders unless he was in control and not frustrated.

You are saying tyson would be able to fire on all cylinders if he had rooney in his corner to do his thinking for him? it dosnt work like that.

rooney being in tysons corner when he was becoming frustrated against tillis and bonecrusher didnt make him come over all tenacious and explosive did it?

why? if douglas is reading tyson's every move and making him pay each time he buys a feint how is tyson expected to do whatever he wanted?

Douglas was not letting Tyson do what he wanted.

Well Stylistically Douglas had the perfect style to beat Tyson. So Tyson coming in under prepared didnt exactly help his cause.

Douglas beat that version of Tyson so comprehensively and decisively, that even if Tyson was only working at 50% - it would still be a pick em fight if he was at 100%.

But of course Tyson was not 50% he was in his prime - and in his prime he had numerous up and down performances, its just he never faced anyone who could capitalize on it.
If the Tyson who faced Spinks was against Douglas, it wouldnt of been a one round wipeout - it would have progressed into the later rounds and who's to say how good Tysons conditioning was then - Tucker may well have pulled a Douglas had he not broke his hand in round 4.

Thats not true. You want to pick a fight so early in his career like the Tillis fight, Ill use the Ribalta fight as an example. A much more physical difficult fight. Ribalta actually kept getting off the floor. Now you'll tell me Tyson was still in control, but wasnt against a guy who was in defensive mode?

This comment pretty much ends our discussion. If you dont think Rooney gave more sound advice than Jay Bright or Aaron Snowell you really dont know what your talking about.

Both W's. Both at different points in his career and bad comparisons. Rooney certainly got him through a fight where he couldnt stop his opponent. Just shows you the standards Tyson is held to by his haters. If he didnt knock a guy out, he was exposed. Tyson was full speed ahead slugger, a lot more boxers and the use of lateral movement "should" have given him more trouble in the simplest form.

exactly, Tyson let it all hang out against spinks, he could smell spinks's uncertainty, so a round was all he needed for mr spinks. A great win for tyson but prety a disapointing night for spinks who did not get the chance to give tyson something to think about.

I considered using this fight as an example actualy. ribalta was a tall long armed fighter with balls enough to stand up to tyson but he wasnt good enough. Tyson beat him beacuse he was encouraged all the way through by the fact that he could hit him and make an impresion. Tyson wasnt frustrated at all.

maybe rooney had more sound advice, maybe he didnt. Apart from omar sheika (who fought nothing like tyson by the way) I cant think of another fighter rooney brought along to contender level - and even then he had caytons cash to do it with and he still tripped up against Tony booth!!

Im not a tyson hater at all. You could actualy spin that around to the other extreme Tyson nut huggers always think "if tyson didnt knock them out it was only because he was in bad shape"

Id say he got a lot out of Vinny Pazienza as a super middleweight. He also trained Hasim Rahman as an amatuer. He also trains Eduaord. Rooney knows boxing and is a no bull**** guy. You dont have to work with a bunch of star fighters to be a good trainer, and how long does it take to develop a champion, "if" they walk through your door? In Catskill New York, where Rooney never leaves?
Regardless he was a D'Amato fighter, knew the style inside and out, and it worked for Tyson very well. Tyson cleary got away from the simple basics of that style shortly after they parted ways.

Never heard that one before, but Ive heard your comment about him looking bad or being exposed in UD wins alot.

Tillis wasnt much better than Ribalta, he just had a different style. Both were good early stylistic tests for Tyson.

You cant make these assumptions at all. Tyson was pretty sharp against Spinks regardless of how quickly the fight ended. Tyson could have very well caught Douglas quickly and stopped him.

Im sure if Douglas had not presented such stylistic problems, sound tactics and hungry desire Tyson may have caught Douglas quickly and stopped him.

Douglas took Tyson out of his stride, broke his rhythm, prevented Tyson from doing what he wanted to do and schooled him. then knocked him out.

Tyson had his hands full with what douglas brought that night, he wasnt going to catch a guy early that keyed up.

If Tyson was as sharp as Douglas was that night it could have very well been a hell of a fight, Bowe Holy style.
