Don't get me wrong, I love this fight, and I look forward to seeing Floyd fight again. BUT, Ortiz is not Jesus; he came off a good win against Berto, a rising elite in a WAR that cracked lots of china. Many people are quick to discount a fighter's selection of competition on the sole basis of getting the W or not in their last fight or whatnot without even taking into account what actually happened in that fight, or in the fights just prior to it. Jones-Tarver I? How about a closer comparison since people keep mentioning Pac in this: Many thought Clottey deserved the W against Cotto, but there's NEVER any credit given because of the way he was shut down given his next fight coupled with the prior robbery. Again, Ortiz is a young lion (more like a young cub to the truly elite) but still, one solid war with an untested Berto, and he leapfrogs everyone he was under in the JWW division. All in all, I hope to see Ortiz make it a war, but he's gonna have to use his youth (and size if I've sized him up correctly) to push his fight; other than that, I don't see anything other than a schooling, which I honestly don't mind since a schooling is just as enjoyable as a war to me.
Ortiz made himself into a good fight for pac or mayweather after the beryo fight. Simple as that. If floyd wins it doesn't make him the goat but its a Damn good win
I for one know Ortiz isn't the next SRR. Ortiz is coming off a sensational win, as a WELTERWEIGHT, and is a champion on a good streak. Floyd is a Welterweight, and gets criticized for not fighting people his weight, so people are excitied.
I want to know where you guys are seeing fans here over rating Ortiz? most know this should be easy work for Floyd, Nobody is out here predicting an Ortiz upset, though we may want one. We are simply stating this is the best fight that boxing has to offer at welter weight aside of Pac vs May.... Even if Manny took this fight we would be saying the same ****, this is the best fight out there right now for either guy. Thats not over rating son, thats giving credit where its due..... It's just about the best fight available for Mayweather. Ortiz easily beat Berto, who beat a lot of good Welterweights He's the real deal. Not a hall of famer, but if you face the best in the division you get respect. Period
You get credit where credit is due. Fans don't like cherry picks. Meaningless fights, against old names. This isn't a cherry pick
Maybe a little, But on the same note Mayweather ain't going to be what he once was. (Obviously everyone picking Floyd expects the Floyd of old, Not an OLD Floyd) One thing that wont change tho is Vic's youth advantage.
Berto wasn't untested. He'd beaten as many good welterweights as guys like Cotto, Clottey and Margarito
You know, Berto was better than Clottey, and probably on a par with Cotto at 147 And Ortiz beat him well. That's it
Dude, if Pacquiao fought Ortiz, he'd be called cherrypicking for NOT fighting Sergio Martinez. At the same breath, Ortiz is a good fight. But not a world-beater. I'd be surprised if he makes it hard for Money May.
You know what let me search the forum, I am confident that I saw a thread in which many pac fans suggested a fight with Ortiz Made sense.... BRB I have some searching to do..
Good responses, I'll just post my opinion and rate him on the same level as Clottey. Berto literally fed off leftovers, but thats another discussion altogether.
I hope you're not serious. The man went life and death with Collazo, an older guy that HATTON went life and death with years before. An older Quintana. He got a decision win over Juan Urango. Didn't Alexander beat the crap out of that guy? You know, the guy that Desert Storm made quit? The same Desert Storm at 140? Don't blow things up, people. Ortiz is a good fighter. He's a champion. But the man went up against opposition that wasn't as good as Cotto, Margarito, Clottey, or even Mosley is.
