What is wrong with people. I'm Floyds biggest fan around but this is shite. If Floyd isn't gonna fight Pacquiao then the only fighter i'd rather see him fight is martinez. Now that would be a test. Ortiz is wank (Berto's worse before you start). Floyd will pick him apart with ease!
Wow. As I told you, for me it goes by the status of the fighter at the time. Ortiz is highly relevant in world boxing rankings. Mayweather is never going to be the under dog in a fight unless he moves up in a mad way, it's because he is a brilliant boxer.
It's not that it is a big challenge in the ring, it is a good fight because of what Ortiz is. As I said in the toher thread when everybody shocked the living day lights out of me with their fan boy comments- 'Pac-Marquez' is nothing in terms of the current boxing scene, just like Pac's other previous bouts have been.
I didn't see the Berto fight. I've seen Ortiz fight before though (3 or 4 times), and to me he looked atrocious -- especially for what they were making him out to be. No offence and he seems like a really nice kid, but I have absolutely no idea what some people are seeing (on the general forum mostly).
I am a Floyd fan but what is the point? he'll smash Ortiz, the only fight out there is Pacquiao and I aint even interested in that anymore as both fighters best performances are behind them.
Teeto, difference being is that Pac had taken a lot of very relevant opponents on. He's been fighting a few times a year for the past few years. Floyds only fights very sporadically, one a year (if we're lucky ;-)) and to be honest, turns up, puts a fairly risk free performance on against a low-risk opponent and everyone goes on like he's a mix of Locche, Benitez and Sweet Pea (but better than all of them put together obviously) and that it's a 'great fight' or a 'great win'. Fact is, Ortiz was good against Berto. He's in around the top five Welters now, but I don't necessarily think beating Berto makes a good Welter. It's like Khan fighting Paulie. A ranked opponent, but not going to trouble him. ORTIZ IS FAR FAR BETTER THAN PAULIE I KNOW!!!!! :good But then, Floyd is far better than most fighters. Ortiz is decent, but I'm not sure he'd beat Margarito. I reckon he'd beat Shane now, bar Shane pulling something out of his ass early (2% chaance ) I'm not sure he'd give Pac that good a fight, and he sure as Hell isn't going to beat Floyd Mayweather. So what does it do? Give us a chance to see Floyd roll out all the tricks, smile and **** off for another year? Because we sure as Hell ain't gonna' see much in the way of life-affirming action, I agree with Godfathers analysis of the fight, except I see Ortiz having less success than Mosley. He looked pretty crap against Campbell, and happy to be there against Peterson. Why has the win over Berto make everyone think he's a viable Welterweight for Floyd to fight? I reckon Ortiz is quality, and can make waves at 147, he's relly won me back round with his spirited performance. But to fight Floyd off the back of that? Forgive me for not getting excited, but I wanna' see competitive fights. And before anyone says anything, look at my posts on the Pac-Mosley fight, look at my posts on the Margarito fight. I hate Bob Arum and his (increasingly more regular, sadly) wank matchmaking, but Floyd is the same. No point saying 'Floyd can't be in the wrong if Arum-Pac aren't' they all are, and it's a joke. Teeto, you'll know which bits are aimed at your post and what bits are a general rant, it is one of the very few things we disagree on, the Floyd I mean :thumbsup
He looked strong and seemed to have more fight in him. But Berto was wank himself. I've said that for years, before anyone calls me an after timer.
Well, I'll be interested to watch of course. And when I read it I thought, nice one. Because id rather he fights than doesn't. But let's have it right, Ortiz has shown his level, he's moving up, he's a typical floyd opponent really. He cherry picks to a ridiculous extent.
I heard. That's probably were him being overrated is coming from. Maybe I'm being too harsh. When I said atrocious, I meant relevant to world level. Surely if the fighters in mind turn up, Floyd is looking at his first KO win since whenever it was.
Again, you're missing my points, I don't care who would beat who between Ortiz and Margo. Ortiz is coming off a win over Berto, Margo was nothing in terms of the boxing scene at the time Pac fought him, Mosley also hadn't won a fight in 2 years. Floyd and Pac are CURRENT fighters and should not be given a bye wherein they can rest on their laurels, especially Pac who is a bona fide champion and is doing this for the third fight on the trot now, fighting the lightweight champ. Yes I know it is a good fight on fight night but as I have told you a kajillion times, I'm a purist forever and a day, and boxing has always been built on rankings in between divisions, it must be ****ing respected. The day we start to make fights on how good and exciting it will be on fight night is the day the nail goes into the coffin of boxing. Again, I'm shocked at you Flea, I respect your boxing knowledge immensely, always will, I enjoy your posts, but the stuff we have converses about of late regarding Pac and Floyd I find hard to take. Each to their own.
