Ever see a ref let a helpless fighter take more unnecessary shots ? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezLbrjlyTuQ&feature=related[/ame] Terrible ... go past the 2:00 mark after second knockdown ..
I agree that is a horrible stopage. I usually feel ref's err to much on the side of an early stopage, but this was bad. As bad as the ref was, where was the corner....was there anyone throwing in a towel....I would be trying to protect my fighter at this point!
Yeah it was definitely a bit callous considering a man lost his life that fight. Proves even people trying to be poetic can sound like idiots!
Pretty insane , still that guy for the most part seemed off balance while Machen looked badly, badly hurt ...
While I don't think this one qualifies as the worst stoppage ever, when I watched this live, I couldn't believe ref let it go on so long. Seeing it today, I still can't figure it out. Pete barely beat the count, was wobbly and glassy eyed and took a helluva lot more punishment than he should have. This one was quite a beating Nat Fleischer is referee : [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCQ0eqQTL74[/ame] I think Ruby Goldstein's handling of Floyd Patterson v Ingemar Johansson 1 was pretty much on a par with Ingo-Machen. The first KD and Johansson follow-up ... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wn0YclbKR0[/ame] 6:22 onwards
Well, they were all very, very bad - But we still have to remeber Carlos Duran - Davey Moore. That was NOT GOOD! Woller
The funny part about Ingo Machen is the ref was still counting to ten, when Machen's handlers were in the ring tended to him. Ok Bozo, I dont think counting to ten would chance the out come of the fight, when Machen's men are all ready in the ring, with water and towels and trying to get there man to.
