Finally Floyd is getting back in the ring, i believe it 17th of Sept. Ortiz reign as title holder is going to be a short one i feel.
This is not all bad people. I see this as Floyd testing himself against an aggressive southpaw, and logically he is doing this is preparation for Manny IMO. Think about it, the last fast southpaw he faced was Zab Judah and Zab gave him fits for 3 or 4 rounds. He will want some real ring time with a southpaw that comes forward hard and throws a lot of shots. No real similarities to Manny, but then again who can mirror Manny? That is what is so intriguing about Floyd vs Manny... neither guy can be equaled or imitated by other fighters and both have advantages in different areas. One a southpaw slugger who has become an established boxer puncher with aggressive and blazing speed, and the other a defensive genius counter puncher with all the natural talent in the world Hopefully this is just a southpaw tune up for Manny in 2012... there is nothing to suggest there isnt so im going with that
Yeah, personally I see it as a decent enough return to the ring - Floyd is getting older and he needs to test the waters. Also works for all the reasons you've stated Gonzo. It's also a great thing that he's active once again. What's hard is seeing the frenzy in the main forum and other sites over this. People just get so damned carried away.
Funny Floyd signs this as soon as Manny's signed up to fight JMM, im not a nut swinger but that is weak!
that is why i dont post in the general forum much... it is just full of "know it alls" and ravenous fan boys that swing off nuts like George of the Jungle
If Floyd makes the Manny fight after this, then it's fine. If he doesn't then his recent gradual slide into irrelevance will pick up speed. He better not look past Ortiz either.
3 time I believe - Baldomir was first (and lineal), Mosely was next (and also lineal I think?), now Ortiz (not lineal)...
I really like the fight. Considering Floyd's time off and Ortiz's most recent performance I think it could be very interesting.
I doubt that. He has consistently done better ppv numbers than pac and this fight will sell more than pac v marquez. Love him or hate him, floyd is the biggest draw in the sport.
I would say that he is the biggest draw in the US but Pac is the bigger name globally. At the end of the day I watch boxing to be entertained and Pac is the greater entertainer. His most recent fights have been a snooze but his clashes against the likes of Morales and Marquez are fights for the ages! Mayweather will leave a legacy, albeit unbelemished, of boring decisions! His greatness cannot be denied but I pay to see wars!
