From the other perspective, who better for Martinez?

    Exactly.
I don't think it's the end of Barker's career if he loses to Martinez, if he looks bad one of the other title holders may want some Barker action.

  5. Some people are rating Martinez as a puncher because of one fight; just like they were rating Degale as the second coming because he beat Paul Smith. Barker should take the fight and if he loses then treat it as a learning experience.

I don't care what anyone says, Martinez has good power. Even at middleweight.

  9. He has decent power but that doesn't necessarily mean that Barker's going to get chewed up by him, it could well be competetive.

barker should take the fight to find his level and gain some experience. if he wins, incredible. if he puts forward a good account of himself then good on him and bigger things wil follow. if he gets shut down then he needs to go back to the drawing board. my guess is it will be the last one.

A few of you mentioned golovkin could possibly beat Martinez. I dont think so tbh, even though hes probably the best contender out there right now. He seems to be a bit too stationary and one dimensional for Martinez, without a lot of head movement. Even though you can never count him out with his power.

How Barker is in contention for a Martinez fight baffles me, Barker-Martinez for the lineal title at 160 is a joke of a fight

That would make for a interesting thread. A breakdown on how Golovkin wins against Maravilla and how Maravilla beats Golovkin. I'd be interested as i haven't see Golovkin fight at all.

Should fight the winner of Sturm - Macklin instead, I like Barker but could see Martinez doing a Pavlik -Lockett or Cotto - Jennings on him...

I don't rate Martinez at all, he is the most overrated fighter in the past 10 years. The fact hes anywhere near top 5 pound for pound is a laugh. A win vs Williams and Pavlik and hes the second coming of christ , jesus Kermit Cintron went 12 rounds with Martinez and did well, so why can't Barker who I rate as a better fighter. I would fancy Barker to cause a upset in this fight, its far closer than people think. Martinez has only had 3 world title fights....
