The truth is joe lies somewhere in between.

His wins over mitchel, lacy and kessler are top class.

Mitchel might have been ranked 5 but he beat ottke imo.

I hold it against him he didn't unify sooner but he did do it eventually.

He really won the belt against kessler, that's when he became the man.

As it stands he's still the goat at smw imo. But the winner of the s6 will have a damn good argument for overtaking him.

I think froch is close to levelling his top ten ranked victories.

Pascal, taylor, dirrell, abraham, johnson were all top ten. If he beats ward and kessler he overtakes joe imo.

Pascal was so green when they fought for vacant title..
Glass chin Taylor Good victory? WTF?
Dirrell victory yes but another green fighter that nearly won the fight if it wasn't for his lack of balls.
Abraham? A 168lb one dimensional midget? WTF?
Johnson 42 year old warrior with 15 losses to his name?

Get the **** out of here?!

Luc I thought u were semi decent poster until this...I just realised ur tool

No way. Hopkins was still a smart fighter even in his prime and an active Joe would not take what an offensive-minded Hopkins would dish out plus would get counter punched to death think Hatton-Mayweather except Hopkins would be a little more offensive than Floyd. It would be a war but Joe looked bad against an old Hopkins and damn sure didn't "beat" him. I question how many people here actually study Hopkins' career, not many.

Calzaghe's resume doesn't come CLOSE to matching his talents. Been a long time fan of Joe C, but he irritated me at times with his level of comp. Opportunities where there. He just seemed to be happy defending his WBO belt at home against a bunch of stiffs for mad cash. Who can blame him?

Also, how can two guys be setting the SAME RECORD in the same division at the same time? That's just ridiculous.

I'm not one for picking holes.

I'll go over my point again because I feel you missed it.

Joe beat 7 top ten fighters. Froch has almost levelled him because he's beaten 5. If he wins his next 2 fights they'll also be over top ten fighters.

    Ashira became rated at MW
    Lacy you note
Manfredo and Kessler you note Bika also became rated

Now you havent told all of the truth as Manfredo wasnt coming off a loss.
You dont note how Mitchell was coming off a loss to Ottke which was very debateable.
Brewer wasnt coming off a loss either

So if you work out how many fighters were top 10 rated and how many became top 10 rated after Calzaghe beat them he fought 22 SMW title fights and 15 were or became top 10 rated.

    Thats very good :smooch

Now we could say Ward beat Kessler coming off a loss to Calzaghe but that wouldnt be strictly true.
But we could say Ward beat Abraham coming off 2 very clear S6 losses and Green had lost to Miranda :patsch

He was still fighting in the UK you ****in ****. :patsch
And since you count Americans as fighting at home regardless of whether it's the state they hail from, or just a fight INTHE US, you don't get to apply a double standard as usual...

Where did you get these ratings?

The ts used the ring annual ratings which is where he got his figures.

I know I've posted on this thread already, but just wanted to underline my surprise at learning of this fact. I thought I knew Joe C's career pretty well, but I didn't even know this. Pretty taken aback. It really does appear that Calzaghe's resume and legacy folds like a deckchair as soon as it's put under any concerted scrutiny.

5 of the 7 guys he ever fought that were top 10 ranked were coming off losses? :admin 14 out of 21 opponents weren't top 10 ranked?!!

That resume, weak as it is, is more full of holes than Swiss cheese. :deal You can't really put a good spin on facts and stats like these.
