Pretty much every major welterweight fight is fought using 8oz gloves . 10 oz gloves are known as pillows in the business .. Many may argue that 10oz gloves are the regulation size for 147 in Nevada , but that's simply not true. 8 oz is regulation as long as both parties agree to use them. 10oz gloves would give Mayweather an even bigger advantage over the already overmatched Ortiz. What's your opinion ?
Given that Mayweather has used 8 oz. gloves every time he's had the choice, I would assume they are going to wear 8 oz. gloves.
I would think that Mayweather saw how vulnerable Ortiz is to Right hand counters and leads ( see Berto/Peterson/Maidana), and would want to use 8oz gloves to really put the hurting on Ortiz .
Mayweather has only used 10 oz. gloves twice in his career and he has repeatedly complained about it. I don't think he would ever use 10 oz. gloves unless had to, no matter who the opponent is.
if im not mistaken he used 10 oz in the hatton fight and said thats why the ko took so long i remember him making an arguement about pac with that it was either the hatton or the dlh fight pac used a 8 oz and floyd used 10 ozs im not sure ill have to look it up
Ortiz would definitely want to use 10oz. to protect his brittle hands and to diminish Floyds punching power.
They will use 8's , somebody correct me if im wrong but the only time Floyd has used 10's was Oscar ??!!
Not sure it depends on what they agreed on, who cares if the are 8 or 10 ounces its like Roy Jones Jr said years back, a good fighter will stop you using any of these gloves.
