He doesn't want to be rusty, so he's taking a stay-busy fight - what's the problem? He's hardly going to face a P4P calibre opponent and risk the Pacquiao fight.

The dumb part is hes fighting at lightweight... The tune up should have been at 140 or higher.. Really dumb move..

Marquez should have gotten a better fight then this, I smell either early Kayo, or DQ the kid in two of his lossing fights, one he was DQd for biting the other he was floored in and lost points due to hitting behind the head.
Sounds like a real winner here.

Of course not. The only similarity that he has against Pac is that he is a south paw. Even if that guy is at lightweight you gotta remember that Pacquiao will weigh about the same as that guy.

I think it's important he stays active but obviously he won't want to risk a cut or anything like that. I can't really complain because Marquez has earned a few easy fights after such an impressive career.

rofl at how many people here seem unfamiliar with the notion of a tune up fight.

Damn, thats pretty sad a guy for Marquez to be using as a tune up. You're right they should have got someone better. Any southpaw at 140, he could have been feather fisted.. but this doesn't seem like it's a step in the right direction.. Old ass chop chop still fighting, that would have done him a lot more than this..

Whats the point in that kind of fight though? Marquez would win but he'd get no respect for it and there is a bit more danger involved.

anybody know if this is a mandatory fight for a belt? He's got 2 belts he's having to maintain. You know those organizations like to yank their belt for any *****-ass reason....

His last fight for the belts was in November vs Katsidis. Remember, the Pacquiao fight WONT be for defending his WBO & WBA Lightweight titlebelts. His fight with Likar Ramos will be.

Taking a step back and keeping the "Emo"s in check, it looks like a feasible and most understandable plan from Marquez's point of view. If he DIDNT squeeze in a title fight before the Pacquiao fight, i think theres a good chance he'd run out of time and both organizations would strip him of their belts due to inactivity. On the otherhand, taking on a loser they endorse for a title shot is a fair compromise for the predicament he's in.

Do you all expect him to drop his title belts by default in order to fight one fighter? Is that something you'd be honestly willing to do after earning them? Believe it or not, those belts still hold ALOT of prestige and pride for those fighters. Might not mean much to you, but thats expected, cuz we're just ****ING FANS. They're the ones who are bleeding for these belts, not us....

    Keeping it real on ESB....
