Does Mayweather have any weaknesses in the ring?

  1. He most definately has power in his punches. He knocked out Hatton who was no glass jaw and handed him his first loss.

Floyd's output is a problem. It made the DLH fight semi-debatable. And for all the, Floyd could put combos together if he wanted to, I'd have to see it again to believe it. I think Floyd's safety-first mentality now works counter to that line of thinking. Floyd will only put punches together if he feels absolutely no threat from his opponent, a la the end of the Hatton fight. If he's pressed and needs to put punches together to win a fight, I don't have much confidence that he would do it now.

His other weakness is a lack of power. He doesn't throw pillows in there and is very accurate obviously, but his single-shot power isn't good enough against most decent opposition to worry about him stopping you.

Erm, have you seen the first Castillo fight? The Oscar fight? The Corley fight? The Judah fight? The Mosley fight??

Of course he has weaknesses. Numerous in fact.

The guy is a great fighter, but never let a zero fool you into thinking he is invincible.

He struggles with southpaws, has low punch output, a vulnerable chin (ie can be hurt with single shots), struggles to deal with good jabs when thrown regularly, and toils against intelligent pressure (like he did when Castillo beat him).

I suggest you watch a bit more Mayweather.

I suggest you realise who you're replying to. Just because he wants to strike a debate about Mayweather's weaknesses, this automatically means that he doesn't watch Mayweather, or that he only believes Mayweather has one weakness...brittle hands.

John, is easily one of the best posters on this site...and I would be amazed if you even had a tenth of his boxing knowledge.

He is a very slow starter. That's all I can think of.

I DONT see him with many weaknesses. I don't doubt his chin, i think its a good and sturdy one. Has he ever been seriously wobbled by a shot to the chin? You cant say for sure. He recovers so well and has so much poise to his style you may not know unless he told you

I always wondered what made people think his chin was so questionable? Is it because of his style that he chooses to slip punches as opposed to take bombs and keep on fighting?

And when people compare Margarito to Floyd i laugh. I think Margarito has the kind of chin you chisel tombstones with. Just look at how his head is shaped

Complacency and arrogance are Mayweather Jnr's biggest weaknesses for me. I think these directly relate to his willingness to put punches together, or put more snap on his punches. He now, basically does enough to win a fight, no more. That is always a risk, especially if you are in the ring with a power puncher, who can turn things around with some huge hitting.

However, he is still for me, the best boxer of this era.

He doesnt seem comfortable throwing combinations, he only does it on the odd occassion even when there is golden opportunity with minimum risk of being hit... but that aside he is pretty much a complete fighter IMO.

ALMOST is the key word. He "shook it off" in the next round and became mosley's teacher (schooled). How can you not comprehend that?[/QUOTE]

Not getting hit again is different from having a good chin. How can you not comprehend that?

None of those (other than chin) are weaknesses. It's why he doesn't lose

He only has a low punch output, as he lands 60% of them. It's a huge strength

Anyone questioning his power, needs to look at the stats.

Floyd has knocked out considerably more fighters, in under 250 shots (landed) than Manny has. It's not even close.

Manny knocks more people out, but that's because he throws double the shots.

When backs people up, like the best. He's usually got most of his opponents, gassed, and finished by round 6

If he threw as many as Manny, his KO rating would be way higher than Pacquiaos

The real issue is, you're clutching at straws

Trying to find a bad moment he's had in 41 fights, and saying it's a weakness

As in, Manny's been knocked spark out. Does that mean his chin is a weakness?

Manny got hurt by a body shot by Margarito? Does he have no punch resistance

As I said, he won most of those fights very easily. And schooled Castillo in the rematch once he'd worked him out.

They're not weaknesses. When a guy doesn't lose, you grab at anything

His low punch out rate is one of his biggest strengths.

How do you beat a guy who only throws 450 shots, and lands 60% of them? Where are the openings for you?

    This isn't really true

He destroyed Mosely after the knock down. Opened up on him

Was there no danger there then?

Truth is, the guy has a plan A, B, and C

He does what he needs to do
