Alexander Ustinov against the best, how does he do?

Alexander Ustinov as we all know has now reached the top of the sport, a beast of man standing 6.7 1/2 with genuine KO power, being one of the hardest hitters in the division. After putting all of the C level fighters to the sword ( Barrett, Mahone, Viodz, Sprott, etc ) he is now on the brink of a World title fight. Now is the time to earn that title fight by beating at least one of the contenders this year, how does he fair against the best? Here is my opinion.

Wlad Klitschko. 15% chance of victory here I think, has the KO power that is needed but will find it hard to land the big shot.

Vitali Klitschko. 5% chance of victory here I think, with Vitali's iron chin he has no advantage here, this is the toughest fight out there he could pick.

Haye. a real 50/50 fight here. This would likely be similar to the Valuev vs Haye fight, only Ustinov has genuine KO power as well as far better movement than Valuev. Could Haye pot shot his way to vicoty here? Who knows, this really is a toss up.

Adamek. 30% chance of victory here for the big man, Adamek would likely win this on points.

Povetkin. 55% chance of victory here for Ustinov, a tough fight but I have a feeling the big man can be the first to stop Povetkin.

Chambers. 50/50 fight again, if it goes the distance slick Chambers wins on points, but can he withstand the power?

Helenius. This would be a real battle here that the public deserve to see, this could be this era's Brewster vs The white wolf. This has war written all over it. It's a toss up at this stage, Helenuis is still a few years of his best.

Thompson. 70% chance of victory here. Ustinov blasts Thompson out of there in amazing fashion, Thompson is talior made for Ustinov.

Solis. A fit Solis likely wins this, I give Ustinov a 40% chance here.

Chagaev. Another devastating Ko win for Ustinov here, 70% chance of victory.

Peter. KO win again for Ustinov 67% chance of victory.

Juan Carlos Gomez. Ustinov with a late KO win here

Arreola. A tough battle that Ustinov wins by TKO, 60% chance of victory here.

 

against either klitschko he has ZERO, NONE, NADA chance . we have had him here for sparring many times..... he cant handle the brothers at all

 

I think you're overrating Ustinov quite a bit there, mate. He's really not that good at all, from what I've seen of him.

I mean, you talk about his power, but he failed to stop Monty Barrett, who was taken out in 2 by Solis in his previous fight. He also failed to stop Vidoz, who is somewhat durable, but a guy that someone with real power should be stopping. And you see, if he can't stop the likes of Barrett, how would he stop the proven more durable guys like Thompson, Povetkin, Chagaev and Arreola? I just don't see it.

I also don't rate his boxing ability particularly high either. He's got fast hands for a guy his size, but he's pretty slow of foot, and a bit plodding. He hits hard, but not top-level hard, and his punching form hampers his power at times (like in the Barrett fight), so I couldn't see him outboxing or stopping many of the top Heavyweights TBH.

I'd pick him to outwork and decision Chagaev, Gomez and maybe Peter (looked decent against Helenius until the stoppage), but that is it. The rest would beat him IMO, based on the evidence we have on Ustinov.

 

Do you know if Ustinov will be on the undercard of either of Vitali or Wlad's up coming fights?

 

I havent heard yet. I know haymaker/Saurland/GBP gets 1/2 the undercard so I heard K2 has 3 and haymaker/Sland/GBP has 3

I have my doubts whether he could beat any of them if i'm honest i've never been very impressed with Ustinov he seems to be very 1 geared from what i've seen of him, granted it's not much but I do seem to remember him struggling against Michael Sprott about a year or 2 back. Perhaps a fight with someone like Michael Grant would give us a better idea on how far he could go.

 

I like that you put percentages down and not just 100% here, 0% there etc... but last time I watched him I wasn't too impressed. I think it might have been the Barrett fight, or whoever he fought after that, but he didn't look amazing. I look forward to seeing him step up his competition though, he should provide value for money against a top 10 heavyweight

and from what i've seen of him, limited, he doesn't seem that good...

 

Saw his fights with Michael Sprott & Monte Barrett. Wasn't impressed at all, looked extremely slow and his power wasn't all that. Wouldn't imagine he'd have much chance against either brother or Haye.

 

I'm not terribly impressed with the guy but I do think he could beat Povetkin for some reason. Just seems like Ustinov's size could make things difficult for Sasha. Maybe not.

 

he is slow and plodding. he hasnt faced a big name, yet. plus he is getting old. i think he carries too much wait even though he is a big dude. doesnt help him move around the ring. plus his stamina is terrible. there is a reason why he doesnt face tough opposition

He's nothing special. 50/50 against Haye and Chambers, favourite against Thompson and Povetkin? :rofl
