Let's look at his last 5 fights:

    Mosley - didn't win the 1st round.
Marquez - didn't win the 1st round or any.
    Hatton - didn't win the 1st round.
    Oscar - didn't win the 1st round.
Baldomir - didn't win the 1st round or any.

How did this myth sprout up when Floyd always wins the earliest of the early rounds?:huh

Judah and Oscar did well early but not aswell as people make out because both were having trouble actually landing. Hatton appeared to be in the fight in the first 6rounds and Mayweather hadn't turned up the heat on him yet

Hatton probably won the first round although Mayweather tripped on his foot and the perception was that he was hit with a good punch

He doesn't lose them but just isn't as impressive as he is when the fight goes on because his style is based on adapting.

Mayweather won that round easily. Watch it again.

I remember Mayweather pasting Hatton with straight rights in that round. I knew it was all but over.

Wasn't the first where Mayweather tripped over Hatton's foot? I believe that was the only round I gave to Ricky. Maybe I'm mistaken...

You forgot Judah too who won the first two

End of the day, who gives a ****. If he wins the next 11 it's an easy nights work.

Fight someone who can give you a challenge, the only one who can give him a challenge is Pacquiao

Imo there's nothing wrong with testing the waters slowly and getting someone's timing down in the first 2 or 3.... There's a lot of fight left after those.

Let's look at his last 5 fights and the first fourth, rounds 1-3, of each fight:

    Mosley - didn't win the 1st round. won 2nd round. didn't win 3rd round.
Marquez - didn't win the 1st round or any.
    Hatton - didn't win the 1st round, 2nd, or 3rd.
    Oscar - didn't win the 1st round. won 2nd round. didn't win 3rd round.
Baldomir - didn't win the 1st round or any.

    3 (# of rounds for each opponent) x 5 (# of opponents) = 15-2 (# of rounds opponents won) = 13/15 = 87%

We can even go back a bit more and include the first fourth of the Zab Judah fight.

Zab - won the 1st and 2nd but lost the 3rd.

    3 x 6 = 18-4 = 14/18 = 78%

Floyd isn't no Mike Tyson when it comes to the early rounds, but facts don't back this misconception about him.

Its not winning the rounds or not winning the rounds as such its giving his opponant titbits and a little false hope so they come out of their shell a little. Its a great tactic.
