How can Floyd get into the top tier all time greats

Top league being top 20. I know mayweather is a great.

For me the only way is by beating middleweight champ sergio martinez or if he was to carry on like bernard hopkins

If hed have taken on more top class opposition a few years ago he would really be banging on the door now

A Pac win would not prove anything really. we could always say that pac was da smaller man

 

Martinez wouldn´t be enough. That would bring him into Top35, perhaps 30 but not further. Beating Pac and Martinez get´s him Top25. Top20 he´d have to beat the winner of (Ward-Froch) vs. (Bute-Kessler) IMO.

I think if he can beat Ortiz than Pac one sidedly, hes going to make a very strong case for himself, being up there with the best of them.
Mayweather really isnt a middleweight.

 

If he beats Ortiz and Pacquaio he's got a good case for top10, he will have beat the best of his era in multiple divisions while going undefeated for 14years as a champion. Willie PEp is in most people's top10 despite only managing to go 4-5years without a loss, Armstrong is in most people's top 5 despite only being a champ for 3 years. Ross is in many people's top 10 despite covering less weight classes and beign a champ for only 5years. People will argue they were fighting better competition but in reality they weren't

 

I personally don't see how any boxer of the last thirty years can make an argument of making the top 100 list.Personally,I woudn't rate Mayweather in my top fifty list of African American fighters out of Michigan.

 

A victory over the 140lb champion, Pacquiao and Martinez would be a solid resume for a top 25er.

Beating ortiz and pac is a step in the right direction.

Probably needs to also beat cotto and martinez.

Super feather to welterweight is pretty impressive as it is, but his resume is lacking.

Other than beating the bigger guys he could stay around at welterweight for a few years. Because ortiz, pac, bradley, khan, cotto, williams. Establish a legacy at welterweight. If he can surpass napoles at the division he'd be top ten in both super feather and welter. That's enough the crack it also.

As it stands there as too many missing names: freitas, casa, tzyu, cotto, clottey, margo, williams.

It'll take some doing to make up for that.

Either way he is only a few victories from cracking the elite.

 

you have to admit that staying undefeated as long as he has is undoubtedly impressive. He's missing some names but he's fought good fighters at their peak and a big weight range and been almost singlehandedly dominant

The winner of Khan/Judah. Turtlehead seems to have bowed out of this one to sign with top rank or golden boy for a pacquiao or mayweather fight, so i'm not factoring him in right now. Although he'd be a good win as well.

 

If Floyd beats Pacquiao @ Williams convincingly , it may be a case for ranking him top 20 even without a ludicrous belt @ 160 . It is clear Floyd could never be considered the man @ 160 , not even the #2 .
He started his career @ 130 ! No need for him to fight above 147.

If he beats who ever turns out to be the top 140 guy, beats Ortiz who is the top 147 guy and beats Pac who is the top P4P guy then i think he has pretty much sealed the deal on a top 20 spot. Beating Martinez along with those 3 would be remarkable and give him a claim to the top 10. If not Pac and Martinez would see him top 20 and Ortiz Martines then one other top guy from around WW should see him top 20, especially if they are a fighter at 154 or above.

 

he's arguably the best ever at 130. a pac victory is what's needed to solidify his place all-time. a loss would be disastrous. it would prove that he wasn't the best in his era. regardless of what most post on these boards, floyd has a very strong resume. he's fought a lot of good fighters and future hofs.
