When Mick puts on a show these days, they tend to be good. Look at his Theopane/O'Donnell/Fury card he done, and with Fury-Chisora coming up. If Sky give Maloney another contract I expect we will see the same **** mismatches again.
Edwards is not the only Maloney fighter Shinny is owed a rematch, he was promised one with Ashley Sexton after their one too. Maloney has a habit of 'forgetting' these things atsch
Probably not but if you split Maloney's dates between Hennessy and Goodwin/Hard Knocks then I think you would get some better quality shows.
Maloney has a good stable, who for the most part are entertaining: Gary Sykes, Jamie McDonnell, Sam Webb, Stuey Hall, Martin Lindsay, Dickinson brothers, Tony Jeffries, David Price, Tom Dallas, Jason Booth, Paul Edwards...Then they also have some sort of arrangement with VIP Promotions who have Brian Rose, Tyrone Nurse, Jon Kays and plenty of others. And although he has had some dud cards, he has, IMO, put on the domestic fight of the year in the last two years (Sykes vs. Morris and Moore vs. Rhodes - which was also the best card of the year IMO). And he's on course to promoting another FOTY after Webb vs. Arron. This year so far: McDonnell vs. Jamoye - great fight Booth vs. Arthur - good fight Hall vs. Donnelly - Overmatched Simpson vs. Smith II - good fight Webb vs. Arron - great fight McDonnell vs. Otieno - decent fight He has improved his cards recently I feel and deserves to still be with Sky.
Hes waiting on the outcome of this fight. Hes hoping to fight the winner - probably not taking a keepbusy in case the cut opens up again
Agree and it would keep some of the smaller promoters in business, because without tv it is very hard for them financially, it would also give a bit of spotlight to some of thier fighters and enable them to bid on championship contests involving thier own fighters. with the extra revenue they could put on more non televised shows, thus providing more work.
That fight was **** and the undercard with Wright was an embarrassing mismatch. Look at Spencer Fearon's card next Saturday and tell me the last time Maloney put on decent fights through the card like this: featherweight Choi Tseveenpurev SC Jackson Asiku 12x3 light welterweight Darren Hamilton SC Dave Ryan 10x3 light middleweight Steve O'Meara SC A.A Lowe 8x3 light middleweight Joe Catchpole SC Steve Spence 4x3 middleweight Simon O'Donnell SC Jason Ball 4x3 heavyweight Marek Onda SC TBA 4x3 light middleweight Robert Lloyd Taylor SC Tommy Broadbent 4x3 lightweight Alex Dilmaghani SC Mickey Coveney
Wright/Smedley wasn't a mismatch and Smedley was unbeaten going into that fight. It was a genuine 50/50 good level English title fight.
Did you watch the fight? Bobby Gladman was unbeaten fighting Lynes and that was a mismatch as well. Don't let records fool you. I think Smedley had only fought one guy with a winning record before fighting Wright and that was 3-2 or something.
Yeah I saw the fight. Don't get me wrong, the fight itself wasn't 50/50, Wright was winning all the way through and Smedley's lack of power and accuracy let him down. It was still pretty competitive though and wasn't a wipeout on the scorecards. But you wouldn't be happy very often if you criticised every fight that wasn't close throughout. Going into the fight, Maloney would have hoped for Smedley to win for sure.
Previously, no. Currently, yes. I think they took note of the fans getting pissed off at the Euro bums being brought in to fall over and not even look the part. Price vs McD is a good headliner. McD being replaced by Dallas shows a commitment to delivering a good fight. Edwards vs Edwards is a British title fight and belongs on TV. An undercard with Lindsay, Grant and Matthews is decent. Some of these fights are meaningful against good domestic pros or undefeated prospects. On paper, this Saturday is a what a Saturday night fight card on TV should look like. A good mix of domestic fights. Outside of that a promoter should do his best to ensure his fighters come in shape and come to fight. If they do that, along with a 50-50 match up, everyone is happy.
