People say Evander Holyfield should stop boxing but...

....here are some interesting facts!

- Evander Holyfield has boxed 414 rounds in 57 fights
- Willie Pep boxed 1956 rounds in 241 fights

Pep fought almost 5x as many rounds as Evander, and almost 5x as many fights.

Obviously I'm not condoning Holyfield's continued pursuit of a belt; on the contrary I think he should retire. I just think these statistics are interesting. It goes to show how boxers have much shorter careers now and this is much for the better for their health. It's worth nothing however that Pep's style as a defensive genius allowed him such a long career, whereas Evander endured many a war. :bbb

Here are the number of rounds and fights of many "over the hill" or "punchy" boxers today:

Roy Jones Jnr 414 - 62;
James Toney 628 - 84;
Shane Mosley 388 - 55

Look how much punishment and hard punches Holyfield has taken in his career. He's not a defensive wizard like you said, so I think he should. He's gonna get hurt.

 

Evander took punches from guys like Lennox, Tyson, Bowe
Shane took punches from scrawny little midgets, like Paquiao, Floyd! You cant compare!

Honestly if he is going to get broken off I would rather it be from one of the Champions, and Not from some low grade fighter.
To be honest with you
His recent opposition isnt so horrible,
he fought a string of lower level fights, but has also faced two world champions along the way, only to be robbed in the fight with Valuev.
Let him have his title fight, lets get this **** over with already. his last fight though Neilsen wasnt nothing much, Holyfield showed alot of flashes of his former self, rolling with shots, and countering right back, nice combonations great body work etc...
give him a shot, lets get this whole thing over with, Imagin if he did pull it off, Hopkins would continue to fight until he regained that record...

 

dont forget to realize pep wasnt taking heavyweight punches for over 20 years

 

Holyfield can still take care of himself in the ring & hasn't been KO'd in almost a decade. It's not like he's jones jr getting ko'd in every fight

 

I really believe if he fights a klit and gets brutal beatdown he will still continue, the guy is very stubborn.

 

I think all of us beleive that, but the man has been active for the most part and would likely put up a better fight than most of the recent fighters the Klitschkos have faced.
Thats how ****ing sad this is, Evander can still fight better than most of todays heavys....

 

Shane is a smaller man and doesn't have the mass of an Evander Holyfield so punches from smaller men are going to have more of an impact on his brain. Try again.

I read somewhere that Pep had pugilistic dementia after his career was over, which is weird, considering how great he was defensively. Whitaker is another one. He sounds a bit punch drunk nowadays.

when guys fought weekly like that it was basically part of their training for bigger fights, all these guys fights did not have 2 or 3 month training camp and all the associated levels of sparring etc etc

Now Im not saying that boxers today do as much of course not, just that the numbers are more inflated than they seem with regard to actual punches taken over for example a 20 year career

This statement is an out right lie, I have watched that fight time and time again just to see what you all were trying to claim, about him staggering Evander, a balance shot does not mean Holyfield was rocked, and He did catch Evander off balance.

The fight was just starting neither fighter got anything going at the time it was stopped.
So until you can provide clear visable proof that Evander was hurt, your theory of Williams beating Holyfield is garbage.....
