Duddy retired cos he fought with his face in every fight and couldnt continue to fight like that, he took alot of punches and lost his heart for the game.
See the contrast between a great post detailing the bad side of boxing compared to an average one that shows what your average person will believe.
I think his style wouldn't have suited him in the long run, he was iron chinned but he used to eat punches for breakfast, I'm glad he got out of the sport while he could, he would have amounted to a gatekeeper who always gets beaten by a more skilled operator.
Johns Duddy had an average amateur career, no big promoters would have taken him on when he was turning pro. Boxing is a filthy business, I wouldn't agree to anything without consulting a lawyer first. I remember the Irish ropes guys saying they were like family to Duddy...
Oh for the days when I counted myself as one of their number. Halcyon days. Cracking skulls and draggin some 'off the boat' Cavan young one back to her shared house In Sunnyside. The life.
what is your point??? he's an idiot for going with cowboy promoters in the first place is not the reason I gave for him retiring at all, it was a reply to a different comment altogether read back over the comments before trying to point out that i contradicted myself you spa! And the original reason of him retiring that i gave is hardly true either as i doubt very much he thought to himself "this fight with Lee will be on a Saturday, but I love Maggie Mays on Saturday nights, Im just gonna retire"
And Barney Eastwood was supposed to be close to Barry Mcguigan....just goes to show you cant trust anyone in boxing.
Haha quality, you cant beat those Cavan girls just once there not talking (awful accent) her room mate goin mad cause they have to go and sleep on the couch so you can give her the ride!
