Curry vs. Starling jumped out as a less obvious to me at once.

Btw heres a very modern example of technical ability and skill. This one might be a bit unpopular because its fairly recent, but this is a really good display by both men. I think one boxing writer sumed it up best when he said, he never enjoyed a fight where so few punches were landed more than this one. Its surprisingly packed with action aswell:thumbsup

Spinks - taylor was quite a skillful fight.

Just to give a modern flavour to things.

Floyd is pretty skillful but lately he's been winning his fights with more than just skill. Since baldomir he's begun really sitting on his punches. But his last skillful display against a skillful opponent was vs judah.

Weird how "skilled" seems to largely mean defensive, safety first fighters... What about skilled crowders, boxer-punchers, skilled punchers?

When i said technical skill i meant both offensive and defensive. You would hardly call Mike Mccallum or James Toney safety first fighters, or Pernell whitaker for that matter. I suppose some mainly defensive fighters were posted because its the first thing that popped into peoples heads when technical ability was mentioned. I understand that intelligent pressure, ability to cut off the ring and effective agresssiveness are all part of technical ability, so feel free to post some examples of the types of fighters you mentioned:good

Funny enough this was one of the fights marking my transition from casual fan to hardcore fan. I think it was mab-jmm, floyd-hoya and this fight. All one sky sports over a short period of time and all fights were the guy who started strongest lost.

Did Spinks start out strong in that fight? Its been a few years since I saw it but it should not have gone to a split decision anyways, I scored it 117-111 for Taylor. Spinks showed great defence but he didnt do enough if i recall correctly.

From what I remember spinks put on a clinic for the first 5 rounds. Never watched it again tho cos the second half was terrible. Spinks was really negative down the stretch.
