I don't know how to lads and I'm away from the computer. An anyway the sun today features a large interview with kenneth egan - er stealing quite a bit of spotlight, with unfortunate timing not his fault. He speaks on things like turning pro (or he won't be, rather), becoming a coach, Ward, Dazzler and the WSB.

Great night for Drimnagh BC in the stadium last night. Some cracking amateur fights.
On another subject - anyone notice HBO featuring Womens pro boxing a bit more now! Hope those rhumors about Katie are false even if HBO are taking an interest.

Thanks for this insight Matt. But there's a romour up here in Belfast, that Paddy Barnes is injured and won't be going to the Euro's. Would you be able to shed a little light on this?

Damn! Can Burnett still make the weight? There is an allowance for a late substitution.

    European 56kg
    1 Vodopyanov Russia
    2 Azalimov Rssia
    3 Polyansky Russia
    4 Makarov Ger
    5 Nevin Ire
    6 Campbell Eng
    7 Yafai Eng
    8 Dalakiev Bulgaria
    9 Andreiano Romania
    10 Parrinello Italy

THE TOUGHEST CLASS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH THE 54 AND 57 KILOS MERGING.
Any of the top eight could be argued for the top spot, Polyansky is the Russian representive and beatable. there are at least ten other very good fighters in this class like Najafov(Aze) Nagy(Hun) Koota(Fin)-beat McCullough 7-0- N'Tuen(Swe) Gutmans(Lat) Gojan(Mol) Michelus(Pol) Selby(Wales) and Ulas from Turkey for example.
Nevin can certainly win now that he hasn't to fight weight at every weigh-in with Campbell a big danger.

Fitzy has a change of heart

    June 11th, 2011
Stephen Sharpe 11th June 2011 – On May 22nd Ireland’s current super middleweight and EBA & WBF Intercontential middleweight champion Anthony Fitzgerald jetted of to the Ukraine to offer his services to Avtandil Khurtsidze 24-2 (KO14) who defends his IBO Middleweight Title tonight in Kiev.

The pride of the Northside had invaluable experience from sparring “The Tornardo” but was found lacking and was sent home within three days. Word from Ukraine indicates that “Fitzy” was being dropped at will by the WBA Number 1 rated Khurtsidze. Fitzgerald who is currently ranked number ten in the world by the WBA believes his Eastern Block experience left him better informed of his ability and feels he needs to take a long hard look at his career.
“When I got over there I was confident of proving I was world level but know I know I am not ready for that step up just yet. I was recently looking for a fight with Andy Lee but after Ukraine my team have decided that we should go in another direction”.
Speaking to Greenjab.ie yesterday at his inner-city home the 25 year old Dubliner also discussed the up and coming Irish middleweight title fight between his old foe Robbie Long and the Cork based title holder Gary “Spike” O Sullivan.
“It will be an interesting fight, if Robbie can put the pressure on but I think Spike has the beatings of him, in saying that I hope he (Robbie) wins the fight and I wish him all the best. As you know me and Robbie fought three times and I know how tough he is and I sparred Spike and I believe Spike has the power to stop Robbie”.
No matter who wins the fight Fitzgerald is not looking for a fight at the winner.
“I am looking for a big money fight at the moment. Darren Barker is a fighter we are looking at he currently holds the EBU title and I feel I wouldn’t be punished as much in that fight as he is not as big a puncher as Andy Lee and who knows maybe I can get lucky and knock him spark out! Currently I am in the top 10 of the WBA if Matt Macklin beats Felix Sturm at the end of the month I would be hope he would give me a shot. I approached him in Manchester after the Khan-McCloskey fight and he pretended not to know who I was”.
It’s clear that the future is bright for “The Pride of The Northside” who should get the big money fight he craves in the not too distant future.

5 weeks and the chance to have more champions than the Coolmore Stud!

The pressure is on and the boys are lapping it up.

So here is a wee video I did of Macklin being put through his paces today. Interview to follow.

Interesting insight into the trip to ukraine, but very strange also, i remember fitzy saying on a green jab video before he flew off to the ukraine that he thought long would beat spike and have too much for him but now he says spike has the beatings of long.fitzy has also said before that long is tougher than spike but know he believes spike can stop long.
The strangest of all then is how he all but admits defeat against an average fighter like barker unless he gets "lucky and knock him spark out."He feels that he wouldn't be punished as much against barker as barker is not a big puncher, that is an awful way of thinking,I think fitzy is a bit of a clown but I feel a bit sorry for him here.
Macklin was not pretending not to know who he was, I would imagine that macklin genuinely would have no reason to know who fitzy was. Fitzy would be interested in a fight with macklin but he has no belief in himself in a fight against barker, what does he think would happen against Macklin who unlike Barker can bang and is levels above barker. The end of the article "it's clear that the future is bright for "the pride of the northside". Are you serious? In what way shape or form does this article paint a bright future for fitzy? He's been sent home from the ukraine for being dropped repeatedly and he's talking like a man who has no self belief. If this is a positive article, I would hate to see a negative one.
He's a strange one is fitzy.

Seen this comment on an article about Andy Lee, very interesting:

I fully support Brian Vera but let’s face it he got lucky against a young and unprepared lee last time. I have been involved in the fight game for 30 years now and I have heard this Irish kid is special. Like everyone else both fights I show were televised and he was very poor in each. I had the same opinion as everyone else
until recently I saw him in a tough spar. I knew there and then that this guy will be world champion. It was unbelievable what I saw in that gym, his tv fights have shown 5% of his potential. Get him now while the price is good. Mark these words.

I have heard before he leaves it in the gym a bit but this guy sounds very convinced, seen an interview with mayweather before and he said someting lik we may hits the pads the same we may do the same sparring but we dont all perform under lights the same seems to be the case with andy. Hopefully he can live up to the name hes setting in the gym.
