Tyson makes no excuses!

    As crazy as it might sound, Tyson doesn't look back on his 10th-round knockout loss to James "Buster" Douglas in 1990 with any sort of sadness, even though it was, for my money, the biggest upset in boxing history.

    "That's a good fight. I don't take it personal. I've watched it," Tyson said. "I missed him with some bombs, but Buster was hurting me and he was moving pretty good. He did an awesome job. He did a great job."

    Tyson's career is often viewed in two acts -- pre-Douglas and post-Douglas -- but of that fight in Tokyo, Tyson said, "That was my bravest fight, one of my best fights. I took that beating like a man. I was so in tune with the old fighters. I knew they lost fights. I was never discouraged. I knew I'd be champion again even though I went to prison [on a **** conviction]."

    Gotta respect the man's fighting attitude!

    Tyson has never really made excuses for his loss to Douglas, other than saying that he in way, shape or form, took Douglas seriously, thus didn't hardly train & was just basically banging Japanese girls day in, day out! The only reason he weighed 220lbs was because of a crash diet. He was not solid!

    Mike took his beating like a Man & anyone who says Mike Tyson didn't have a Chin needs to watch that fight. He had a Brilliant Chin! He got the **** beaten out of him, & once his Eye was closed, he got beat even worse as he couldn't fully see the punches coming. He never stopped trying, which is why in the 8th he put Douglas down. If Tyson was in any sort of condition, the fight would have been over in the 9th, but he had nothing left, thus he couldn't follow up the KD!

    Yeah he was a man who always went out on his shield. The interview is top notch.

    I like how he wasn't afraid to lose. Comparing it to modern day fighters who are desperate to protect their unbeaten record.

    Midget Lisp is one honest dude. He dont make no excuses cos he knows he And Bummy Douglas were 100% PEAK when they let it go in Tokyo. Tinfoil was 220lbz of ripped fast-twitch muscle mass. FH:smoke

    On every other thread you give a massive foreman hooooook but on mine I just get a meagre fh :|:|:|

    I respect a man going out on his shield like that, has to be said.

    yeah he was being really modest. that interviewer last night was ****ing ******ed. Sly stallone and tszyu don't deserve to be in the same sentence as Tyson

    Tyson did make excuses about this fight in the Tyson film/doc. He was talking about how he undertrained if I remember correctly. He said something about the Holyfield loss too, I can't remember what the excuse was but he made an excuse which culminated with 'Evander Holyfield is a great fighter but not in my league I don't believe', or something very similar to that.

    I don't hold it against him, in fact as a Tyson fan I'm glad he made excuses, because that's what a lot of great fighters do, they are winners and can't accept defeat.

    Tyson was always humble in defeat and never made excuses, except for in that one film/documentary.

    He made excuses but all pretty true imo. It's not like he said he was poisoned :)lol:) and he's not bitter about them.

    I'd like to see the fighter today that could take the shots that he took from Douglas and stay on their feet punching back for ten rounds.

    I suppose a film doesn't sell as well if you say "i got beat by a better man"

    I think undertraining against douglas or tyson, whether true or not, would still be classed as a weakness in tyson's makeup which perhaps makes it easier for him to accept he lost.

    Tyson was still a little bit dishonest in that film, and not as mature as he is now (5 years after the film was made).
    He implied that his use of drugs were to blame for a lot of his troubles, and was still using the "headbutt justification" to minimize the ear bite outrage. Recently, he's taken a bit more personal responsibility for a lot of stuff.
    Gotta love listening to Tyson. :good

    Don't get me wrong I aint nitpicking at all.

    Just saying he seems a lot more honest lately and the most recent interview he is very candid about the fight with douglas.

    Doesn't personally make a difference to me since i'm not a fan of tyson's (or anyone really).

    In this interview he talks about his priorities being putting food on the table and providing for his family. It seems a lot of "iron" has been removed from his personality.

    With people to this day still providing excuses he could easily play along but for some reason this latest interview makes me respect him more. No mention of training or anything just crediting douglas for his movement and gameplan. He actually cites this fight as one of his favourite performances. Sorry if you read the interview, don't wanna seen patronising or anything.
