I rewatched Hatton v Mayweather today.

    cortez was terrible in that fight. If you watch him ref the Calzaghe - Hopkins fight some time later, you'll see he lets Hopkins grab and spoil the entire fight. That said, the better fighters won.

    I've seen that fight about ten times. I have no problems whatsoever with the officiating. If you want to see a fight that Cortez ****ed up, look at Hopkins/Calzaghe.

    That fight was fixed, Hatton was fighting against two guys in there, Joe Cortez and Mayweather.

    I felt Cortez did ruin what could have been an exciting example in how two styles of infighting clash. Instead we got a fight where Hatton struggled to land against a Mayweather who struggled to look good until he was able to move up in gears at about...round 6?

    That was the problem for me. At the time of the Hatton-Mayweather fight, I didn't really see a problem with cortez stopping Hatton holding and grabbing. Infact, it's something I wish refs would do more. But he showed his true colours in the Hopkins fight, when he let him get away with all kinds of nonsense.

    Watching it now.. I thought Floyd was too clever for the brit the first time i saw it.
