Quit sugar coating this ****. Martinez isn't exactly the youngest boxer walking the planet. The fact that he is still able to fight at a high level with no signs of slowing down is a gift from God. He knows he needs to strike while the iron is hot. He doesn't have time to sit around fighting decent competition while waiting for the real fights to get hot. It needs to happen now.

Your right Martinez isn't an idiot. He knows his time is now. That is why you hear him in all these interviews calling out Chavez. It's a smart move.

Martinez should stop calling out people around his weight class, and move up to Cruiser to fight Cunningham. :rofl:rofl

Yes but is or is not Chavez within his rights to say, "hang on, I'm 25, have 43 fights, have only fought world level opposition once, and had no amateur career whatsoever. Let me defend my belt a few times and then the fight will be a superfight".

The fact Chavez constantly says yeah lets fight speaks to his own stupidity because he would be owned viciously if they fought anytime soon.

I don't think Martinez is going to suddenly drop soon. He is getting better with each fight, if Chavez defends his belt 2 or 3 more times, a year down the line the fight will be much bigger and Chavez will be much more accomplished.

The point I'm ultimately trying to make is it's ridiculous getting on Chavez/Team Chavez' back. 2 fights ago if Chavez got a shot at Martinez people would be screaming about how he got fast-tracked to a good payday. Now everyones annoyed the fight isn't being made. Doesn't make sense to me.

Chavez has had one World level fight and scraped it. Its far too soon to start accusing him or his people of avoiding the biggest fights.

The bit about "Chavez Jr. blatantly ducking Martinez" turned this into a troll thread. Jr. has only been a champion for a week.

For a true definition of "blatantly ducking" check out Floyd's history! :deal

It's a mad padded record though against cans and taxi drivers from Mexico so I still consider him green, though it's not for lack of pro ring experience, it's because he had 0 amateur fights and aside from Zbik ain't fought ****. Will he ever get better? Prolly not, does he deserve a belt? Prolly not. Can we blame him? No.

And he'll NEVER be ready for someone like Martinez unless Martinez himself starts to slow down. I never said he won't fight him, but I got a problem with morons like you that give him a pass because you say that he's green, gtfo with that ****.
If he fought a "champion" and got his belt, I don't see any reason why he shouldn't fight the real champion in the division instead of fighting tomato cans.
The only reason this ain't happening is because even Arum knows that he'll get his ass wupped, and he wants to milk him.

I will put it to you like this.

    1. He fought for a world title.

    2. He won the world title.

    3. The excuse for being green is officially dead.

The MW division is one of the weakest in boxing. He isn't gonna get much top level competition fighting in that division anyway. No he is not ready to fight Martinez, but it doesn't matter. He has a major belt. Which means he is suppose to be one of the best boxers currently fighting at that weight.

Sorry son, that means school is officially over. Now its time to go to work.

Jr has the belt that was stripped from martinez. Therefore sitting atop the middle weight division as the champ.

I'm going to enlighten you on something. I could care less about Chavez Jr. Frankly I find the fact that he fought nobody prior to John Duddy and got a title shot immediately after is a ****ing outrage.

Fair play to him though, he took a step up and just and no more won it. I was impressed, he surprised a lot of folk on here.

However, when people like yourself start accusing him and his team of bubble wrapping him 1 ****ing week after he won the title, it gets on my goat.

I called him green? Nope. I said he was inexperienced, and that's relative to those around him/other champions. Surely you can see that? A guy with no amateur career whatsoever edging an even fight with an average contender, his first fight anywhere near world level at 25 years old, all of a sudden he has some ****ing moral obligation to pass his future earnings up and potentially get beat down by a far more experienced guy without even defending his belt?

And I never said defend against tomato cans? Again your putting words in my mouth. Bob Arum himself said he wants to see Chavez fight 4 or 5 times each year. He wants him to be active, and that's a way of bringing him on and honing him slightly. I'd like to see Chavez against guys like Macklin, Barker, Pirog, Sylvester, Gevor.

If, in 2 years, they are both champions and Arum is holding Chavez back and feeding him "tomato cans", then I will share your anger. But 1 week in and your accusing him of ducking Sergio Martinez? Get a ****ing grip son.

If you were in the business of Chavez Jr.'s interests, what would you do? Honestly.

Sorry but some of you must think this is the 1950's, where the champion will hobble up after winning his title half an hour ago to fight the next major contender.

If your spending time seriously annoyed at the fact that when a champion wins a belt these days, he doesn't always go after the main threat in his division, there are far worse examples you could pick than Chavez, especially given he won the title, bear with me now, 1 ****ing week ago!

If they decided to skip the amateurs and go straight to the pros, well I got one thing to say about that: "You made your bed, now sleep in it."

I don't really care what the difference of thinking was between now or 50 yrs ago. IMO, if your fighting for a major world title belt and win it, all the inexperience talk goes right out the window. I'll put it like this. Having that title means your suppose to be one of the top guys in the division. From here on out you are going to receive a steady diet of top competitors. Journeymen are no longer on the menu. If your not ready for that, then you should have never had showed up a the restaurant in the first place. He should have never fought for the belt if he isn't ready to step up the competition. Even you should agree with that.

I ask you, who can he fight at MW that is gonna prepare him for Martinez? Sturm? Williams? How many more fights will he need, 50/60?

Is he inexperienced? Yes, but I no longer care because now he has a belt around his waist. His team put him in this position knowing he wasn't ready for the responsibility that comes with it. Oh, well, it's too late to give it back. Martinez had that title taken away and now wants it back. Like a shark circling a surfer. He is doing exactly what a champ is suppose to do. "Come fight me or give my title back. You never beat me to earn it." It's time for Chavez Jr. to.....................

Sorrybazza12, I use to give him a pass also, but becoming a world champion automatically changes everything.

Papadoc I agree with you in parts I do. I just think its too early to make an assumption that Chavez or his team is deliberately ducking Martinez.
