only one will get the first shot. In taking the Stieglitz route, Kessler would lose the shot.

Yes it's common sense financially, there may be good money to make globally for such a super fight but it doesn't take away the fact that they want Kessler now...not after fighting the S6 winner. It's as simple as that. Maybe they're just confident of winning. Maybe Showtime has also a little something to do with it to legitimize Bute getting a shot at the S6 winner. Whatever the reasons, it's what they want now !

If you want to continue believing otherwise, so be it.

You really dont know... A lot of factors could change that scenario... And in the end it would mean that Kessler could be the undisputed SMW champion with two fights instead of three. That aint so bad!

It's not only about money anyways. Kessler means a lot to Interbox and Bute for the reasons mentioned above. Plus financially a Bute-Kessler fight would make much more than you think. Not sure Bute vs Ward makes as much as you anticipate.

They know they must land a big fight now, cause you never know what could happen down the road when you let it go by...

"It's not only about money"...huge credibility loss there. Boxing is ALL about money. Even in Canada. Why has Bute been fed cans the last few fights? Because they want to make sure his '0' remains intact until he gets a shot at Ward. It's business.

The thing is... Showtime's obligated to pay Bute $2 million for the next 2 bouts. They are not obligated to the same amount with Kessler right now.

So if you invest that much money with a guy, you want to make it worth it. Bute probably has more leverage to face the S6 winner than Kessler right now.

Kessler already was schooled by the Super 6 winner. He has no leverage.

Considering the fight was in Oakland, and Ward was allowed to cheat, and then he beat Froch, he still has some leverage, more than Bute actually.

Disagree. Bute is an unknown quantity. Hasn't lost. That's going to be far more marketable than Kessler, a guy who already got beat down by Ward.

Keep it cool, there's no point in giving low blows with your loss of credibility comment...

Bute has fought the guys he fought cause they decided to stay at 168lbs and there was no one else to fight other than the ones he fought.

Stieglietz refused to fight for a unification, Sartison refused to fight for the same with WBA and no other legit guy was available up to now because of the S6.

Post #62 sums up the situation.

This is not about what I think they should do financially but rather telling you what they want to do now ! That's it that's all...

Who knows what happens in the following year, injuries, a Bute loss, negotiations disputes, the WBC emeritus status etc.

Pasky - don't be so sensitive. It's just a boxing forum. If Bute and Kessler meet next I'll admit I'm wrong. Gladly. I'd love to see the fight. But if I'm right I will not be surprised. And neither should you.

Fair enough Ocelot but Interbox want Kessler right now, that's not a surprize to us. You don't have to admit you're wrong of anything, just believe us a little more cause we're in a good position to claim that, regardless of anything else. ;)

best post in this thread, people that think Kessler is trying to duck Bute are crazy, this story has obviously been spun by Bute and his promoters, Kessler would easily accept if the offer was right, Lucy who?
