I have Weaver's KO's over "Tate, Carl Williams & James Pritchard" on tape, and I wish I had his fight / KO over Gerrie Coetzee for my files, but I don't.... Weaver was a kill or be KO'd type of guy.... He could bang....

John Tate physically overpowered Weaver and smothered him against the ropes through 13 of 15 rounds, never letting Mike get set and affording him the opportunity to get off, until Ace Miller disastrously instructed John to move away and coast through the final round. Weaver wasn't physically as strong as he looked (and his musculature was a genetic gift), while Marciano's assiduous early strength training made him much, much stronger than his size would suggest to the uninformed. Rocky would press him to the ropes and keep him there. Mike could cover up and defend himself reasonably well, but that's not a recipe for beating Marciano, who never let up.

How the dream matchs had fallen.

Were did Marciano go in dream fights vs Louis or Ali with fellow elites, getting dragged into fights with Weaver or Bruno.

I never saw a Ali vs Weaver match before. Marciano is a few classes over Weaver imo.

    Styles and motivation make fights......:deal

I'd pop a fully woody to see Rocco Marciano of 1952 up against 1983 Mike Weaver doing battle in Las Vegas outside in the desert heat like "Weaver-Dokes 2" was fought on 05-20-83...... Marciano can weigh his ripped 187 pounds, while Weaver is his pumped 218........ Let's R&R.....

Bottom line is that Weaver does almost nothing better than Rocky.

Rocky would be too much for Weaver, which is not being disrespectful, the tougher he fight the more Rocky dug deep, he broke the wills of some of boxings all time greats.

    Love your enthusiasm.

Marciano would wear out and KO a game Hercules around 11 or 12.

Weaver was one of the worst defensive modern heavyweight champions. As you said his chin wasn't the best and his hand speed was moderate at best.

It would be interesting though because Weaver could punch and ton, and showed heart. I would pick Marciano to win via mid to late round TKO.

I love how the old school fighters are magic does not matter if the moderm fighter is 30 pounds heavier, stronger, got stylistical advantage or if he could fly.. Marciano always would find a way to win because he is marciano 49-0.

Like tua vs rocky there is no human posibility for rocky winning it. He was smaller, slower, weaker, got a worse chin, much lighter, with less power. But still.you got the classic boring and nostalgic guys picking marciano to win

The problem with Weaver is that he tended to start slow for one, and second, he didn't have the greatest chin. At his best he'd be a live underdog, Weaver was hard hitting and dangerous once he got going. With the right punch he could put away many champs.Offensively he was a mean machine, but would he be able to take the incoming from Marciano? I see him getting dragged into a slugfest at some point and being finished off that way.
