Nguyen was out for 20 months and put up a good fight. Del Valle has no power but he has great stamina which will go a long way in this sport.

Gonzalez was in with a vet and learned a lot tonight. You can't ko everyone. He backed off, saved some juice and went 10 rounds and it was his what 14th fight?
Good fights back to back nights on Show Time.

Del Valle is the goods. You're wrong about his power. He hits very very hard. He just fought an iron chinned moron that wanted to survive and thats all. He passed the test tonight with flying colors. Del Valle is going to go far.

I disagree with you both. :yep

Moderate power. (not beastly, nor pillow fisted).

were gonna have to start measuring power in teaspoons ..lol he's a hard puncher above average he can crack but he isn't a one punch KO guy or a extremely hard hitter, his KO's will come from accumulation most likely at least the majority of them but regardless he looked very good tonight.

    :good

My only amendment would be that he looked very good against a willing target for about 8 rounds, and then began fading late.

Yeah can't disagree his opponent is a former kickboxer he didn't move his head at all and threw all his punches wide kind of tailor made for him ...but he showed a bit of skill, some crispness in his punches and fairly good counter punching better than average. He is still a prospect so you can never write them off as being or not being eventually world class ...though I can't say I think he will reach the latter.

Valle has to keep working on his technique and defense, but he comes in shape, and that's half the battle.

Guys no one is on here saying hes julian jackson.

Within the context of his composite punching style, he has all the power he needs. You have to grade his punching power within the context of his exact style. He throws a **** load of punches, and doesn't pull his punches from left and right fields. Hes very compact but quick at the same time, turning all his punches over and making very very very nice contact every time he throws. You also should give him credit for hurting an iron chinned guy a couple times with his type of style (an opponent that was just trying to survive over half of the time). I didn't expect him to hurt that guy, but he did a couple times. Thats ****ing impressive IMO. You never see guys with that stance and boxy style knocking guys out with 1 shot. Especially at that weight. But I can assure you, different type guys with different chin resistances would have gotten iced by a lot of the shots that he was landing in that fight. Especially those perfectly timed counter straight right crosses that were beating his opponent to the punch.

Just be impressed with him as a prospect folks. Hopefully people don't call this kid a "hype job"... Prospects can't even get ****ing support around here without being labeled a hype job.

It was a nice fight tonight. Nice step up for Del Valle.

Not having true power isn't bad in boxing. You can always develop power through technique.

Many young fighters get discouraged when they hit a guy with everything and can't drop him. Valle didn't, and he learned a lot tonight.

nguyen for an standout amateur sure can't box to save his life. he made mayorga look like juan manuel marquez. throwing uppercuts when his opponent was couple feet away. left hook from left field. squaring up for each punch, and blocking punches with his face.

He doesn't hit very, very hard. The guy did have a good chin yes. Yes he did pass his text, but he has a lot to work on. Lil things that he even knows after he sees the tape. He'll grow.

Yeah, but Del Valle himself had a checkered amateur career - which is why I was somewhat hesitant to pick him over even the long-inactive prospect-gone-bust in Dat Nguyen.

Luis went 1-1 with Sadam Ali (the win being by a **** hair) - which, OK, not so bad - and lost on points to Wilton Hilario.

    Wilton freaking Hilario.

I don't know how he was as an amateur but as a pro Hilario is an AWFUL boxer. Worse than Nguyen, by far.
