Bruce Seldon vs Tony Tucker WBA title

Tucker pulled an impressive stoppage out against Buster Douglas. Tucker was a big hitter, but past his prime in the Seldon fight due to being more of an 80s Heavy.

As for the era, yes, the 90s was the last great era. The 80s was also superb for Heavys. As was the 70s. And the 60s.......

 

Seldon was damn good. He was an awesome physical specimen with a thick neck but a truly horrific jaw. I'm guessing the Americans must have thought he was an awesome prospect before his chin was exposed. His whole body seemed to react whenever Tucker landed cleanly.

Tucker pissed & moaned in the post-fight interview. A most ungracious, deluded loser. He was never in a good fight either.

 

Tony Tucker, had a injured arm or broken hand during the Mike Tyson fight.

After afew rounds, all he threw was the Jab, and hook. He sustain the injury during the fight, and it was evident after afew rounds.

He nailed Mike Tyson with uppercuts, and was beating Mike Tyson up until the injury.

Tony Tucker, was tall, and very very athletic. Back in the 80's, he was the best fighter Mike Tyson beat during the 80's.

Aside from Holmes in the early 80's and Tyson in the late 80's there wasnt a huge depth of consistent talent, certainly not in comparison to the 70's and 60's.

 

Broke his hand early on against Tyson to, all hope of him winning went out the window after the injury, but Tucker was still able to give a gutsy performance and rock Tyson beofre he broke the hand.

 

Tony Tucker did break his hand early on in the fight, like afew people have pointed out. Tony Tucker was doing well, and nailed Mike Tyson afew times.

Mike Tyson before this fight, was suffering with some kind of illness "Which is why he had a patch in his hair", and also ripped a toe nail during the fight. I cannot remember why he ripped the toenail, something to do with his footwear or socks.

 

He was just suffering from alopecia, supposedly because of the stress he was going through back when he was champion.

 

Yes. Only the 30's compared.

Fortunately, there are a lot of good young prospects out there.

Helenius, Pulev, Glaskov, Perez, Ortiz, Mitchel, Stiverne and Price have all recently made good steps up. The winner of Fury-Chisora is going to be hot. Boytsov and Povetkin will come back eventually. Wilder and Abdusalamov will contribute eventually.

As for Tucker-Seldon, have to say it things look better in hindsight. Tucker took a long time off due to..err...nasal problems. Sad because people really wanted to see him after the Tyson fight. Never was the same fighter, but Don King got him some paydays agaisnt Seldon, Lewis and Ruiz.

Seldon, as has been mentioned, has the very worst chin ever. And who can forget his abject surrender V Mike Tyson. My greatest memory about Seldon was when he fought Bowe, got knocked down, and jumped back up trying to act brave, only to get punched out. Bowe was hillarious in the post fight interview: "that didn't impress me at all."

Didn't Ribalta also drop Seldon straight away, leaving him seemingly finished, before he sprung up like a jack in the box to beat the count.

 

I do not know what this has to do with the British forum, but I believe the feeling is this fight signified the end of the 90s golden Heavyweight era...
