Outside of yourself I might be the biggest Hatton fan in classic???? Arguello is not the same guy at 140 that he was, but based upon his showings with Pryor I have to believe he was not that far off. Ricky I believe at his best would be competitive w/most at 140. I agree with the assessment of the earlier poster w/ the Mancini comparrison. I think even when Ricky felt he was doing well, Arguello would be dissecting him and setting him up for the later rounds. Arguello would stop him somewhere between 9-11 IMHO!
Hatton would give Arguello similar problems to Pryor, with the pressure, speed of foot. Pryor is more skilled, Hatton is stronger and a better bodypuncher, plus he would wrestle Arguello back to the ropes. Both have excellent chins. Overall Pryor is better yes but Hatton brings Arguello plenty of problems. I'm not sure who wins, Hatton was supposed to get knocked out by Tyszu and that match up has similarities here, he can take Arguello's punches, keep him off balance with the pressure and strength. It could be a very very good fight and allot depends on how much wrestling Ricky is aloud to get away with
And Arguello is more punch resistant than Tszyu and even at 140 pounds has better stamina that a prime Tszyu. Hatton is that wide open this can't help but end a bad way for him.
Hatton's chin was excellent against Tyszu, he took some massive right hands, who's a more proven puncher at 140lbs. Haven't you seen that fight? He bulled pretty much everyone around the ring with his strength Tyszu, Mayweather, Collazo - some strong guys There's no evidence of that at 140lbs, where he was knocked out twice and in the first Pryor fight Pryor really wasn't sitting on his punches to get the leverage
Did you see how brutally he was beaten before he was stopped? There's no way in hell Tszyu takes those kinds of shots from Pryor before folding.
Hatton's chin may have held up against a version of Tszyu that we have no way of knowing how far declined he was, considering he never fought again. But Hatton's chin didn't look 'excellent' against Magee or Lazcano or Pacquiao, nor against Collazo and Mayweather at welterweight. That's quite a lot of shaky moments and/or capitulations for a chin that you are equating to Aaron Pryor FFS!! I don't think Hatton did "bull" Mayweather around at all, I think Floyd let Hatton back him up, then just picked him apart on the inside, by that point I don't think Floyd wanted to fight on the move anymore. Arguello had much better power than Hatton, a better chin, better stamina, better skills, and was just a much higher-class fighter all-round. This fight would not have been close at all. Hatton would've ended up a carbon-copy of how he ended up against Manny Pac. :deal
Yes I did but Tyszu too proved his chin many times, look at the bombs he took from Vince Phillips for all those rounds and Phillips if nothing else has a sledgehammer of a right. Then there was the bombs from Hurtado and Judah, the relentless beating from Hatton. In the rematch Pryor he was getting more leverage and putting Arguello down with singles, not sure if that was because he knew he could take Arguello's shots or because he moved to Steward I'm not picking Hatton here, just unsure on the winner, against Tyszu I picked Zoo to take him in out 2rounds
We saw that version of Tyszu decimate Mitchell a few months earlier and yes I'd equate taking Tyszu's punches with taking Arguello's punches. Chins usually degrade the more punishment a fighter takes especially after taking sustained beatings and being knocked out as what happened to Hatton against Mayweather, not to mention the punnishment he took against Zoo and Collazo Magee didn't have Hatton badly hurt, Phillips and Tackie hurt him more, but being hurt and coming back is part of punch resistance and a good chin, boxers do get hurt from being punched with big punches, it doesn't mean you have a bad chin As for strength, look at how Hatton rag dolled Castillo, another big LW moving up in weight Arguello is nothing like Pacquaio and doesn't have anything the foot or hand speed. I'd pick Pacquaio to knock out Arguello and Pryor too, though
I didn't say anyone said he was a mug. I am saying he is no mug! I'm giving him credit for being a tough night for Arguello at 140, but ultimately he would come unstuck against the far better man. I think my original post is being 'realistic' and i came to the same conclusion as you. What's the problem?
Relax dude..my post was somewhat rhetorical in suggesting that hatton isn't percieved as a "mug"..I see what you mean, though I don't think that the fight would have gone beyond round 3..we're on the same page basically.
hatton pressures and cramps arguello and ruffs him up landing some scruffy but effective left hooks possibly causing a cut arguellos slow pace keeps strong for the later rounds and keeps landing. possibly late tko but i think it would be a closer match than you are thinking of. hatton has a hard left hook has a lot of agility on getting inside and a very deconstructive mauler. also arguello is pretty slow, technically precise but slow starter using his strengths and length in the later rounds to punish opponents. also 140 looked good on arguello but he wasnt as good at 130.
