Anyone else think Haye will or will not retire from boxing after his 31st birthday? Personally I feel he is hyping it up for future fights. Similar to what Mayweather done post Oscar fight, but then coming back for a super fight with Hatton. If he beats Vlad. Haye will do the same but for a super fight with Vitali. Marketed as revenge for his brother / Haye comes out of retirement etc.
Hard to know really. Haye might be serious, but somehow I doubt it. If he beats Wladimir, well then he'll have opened a new door to bigger fights and much bigger purses - namely fights with Vitali, Chambers, Ibragimov, etc. Basically most of the Klitschko brothers main opposition. Perhaps a fight with Chambers could be on the cards? If he loses to Wladimir and chooses to stay active, I could easily see this fight playing out.
I believe him, his been saying it long enough. 'IF' he beats Wlad then i think he might stick around for a Vitali fight, but that's it.
Whether he beats Wlad or no, he can still make big bucks fighting Chisora or Mormeck afterwards, and be a huge favorite in those fights. Chambers would be much more competitive but who knows maybe Haye would be game for Chambers.
I think he will stick to it. I read/heard an interview somewhere and he basically explained that if he beats Wlad he will be even more satisfied with himself, but if he loses, he will still retire and be content with what he achieved so far.
Really? I respectfully disagree. I don't think he'd go straight after Vitali, probably fight Chambers or something. I think it would be a smart move to wait until Vitali finishes up with the Adamek fight, if David Haye manages to beat Wladimir. He could then evaluate whether or not fighting Vitali would be a good idea.
Not sure how long he has been saying it for, but to retire before your 31 for a HW is nonsense, taking into account most HW's are in the prime in their 30s.
Many fighters say they will retire at a certain point in time but when the time comes it's easier said than done. Hopkins, Roy Jones, De La Hoya and many others said they would retire and not fight very far beyond their primes but they all did. Win or lose I suspect Haye will be around for some time still.
My guess is that if he loses he will completely disappear and hide in Cyprus, enjoying his paycheck. If he wins who knows, he will probably be tempted to make another couple million by fighting the winner of Vitali - Adamek.
I'm sure I've said it before, but I think Haye will retire if he can't get any big money fights signed, or low risk & relatively high rewards fights. With that in mind I think he also knows that he can use it to his advantage as leverage during negotiations in the time leading up to his 'retirement'. If Haye beats Wlad, then Wlad might think he only has a few months to get a rematch, and Vitali might think that he only has a few months window to make probably the last huge money fight of his career...hence giving Haye a bit more bargaining power than he may otherwise have.
If Haye beats both Klitschkos then retires. It makes perfect business sense. He'll just wait until a new champion comes along and then demands a huge pay day to come back..... at maybe the grand old age of 34. Haye fights like a semi-retired boxer anyway.
