If Marquez counterattacks after pivoting like Mosley was supposed to do, can he pull off an upset?

Well, that is his style, so yeah he can do it.

But the weight may play a big factor here.

Nacho and JMM already said the weight won't be an issue, and I don't think it will be either.

Mosley copied Marquez's successful strategy, simply stepping on the outside of Pacquiaos front foot and trying to take the center of the ring.

Marquez has a higher boxing IQ and will try to repeat his very own strategy to a teeth, the only problem is he's gonna be a little slower, likewise with Pacquiao ofcourse. But I see strength and size playing a bigger factor in this one fight than the other fights, it'll probably look slightly different.

Still, I fully expect Marquez to push his right hand down Mannys throat yet again, for twelve rounds or so.

mosley tried to fight like marquez but he wasnt throwing anything just staying out of range, and pac wasnt lunging in with that right hand power off mosley in mind, add the boring glove touching and you have a sparring match.
Marquez will do what he always did but he will be dealing with more power at a weight he isnt proven and whilebeing older, pac is also older and slower but the size should be the difference maker here and therefore pacquiao is supposed to win this one, I think he will win a decision or late tko.

I don't think size and strength difference will be a big issue. Manny hasn't gotten taller and grown a longer reach, and he isn't as fast as he used to be.

    :think

Good analysis mate, checking my post we almost think alike!

Weight and size will be more a factor than it was at 125-130lbs.

The difference between JMM and Pac at 144lbs is similar to Pavlik vs. Kessler at 168lbs. Pavlik may have the dimensions, but it's pretty obvious Kessler carries the weight far better and is far stronger.

With JMM slowing down, as is the case with Pacquiao, strength will play a bigger factor I think.

Well, for sure it will be a competitive match, not the whitewash some posters here think. Boxing is still mostly technique and finesse at the elite level, not a weight lifting competition, and JMM has more of it than Manny.

I agree completely, im not counting marquez out like a lot of people seem to do, its just that logic favours pacquiao at this point, I think it will be a great fight if marquez carries the weight better this time, im pretty sure he will do better than mosley and clottey even if he gets stopped.

Its going to look very similar to the second fight at least the first half. Jmm isnt as aggressive as in earlier in his career.

Mosely had the movement down correctly but for whatever reason he wasn't taking shots at the openings.

And mosely copied that from Marquez....Pac needs someone coming at him to look good. WHen they apply a simple move he starts thinking to much and that confuses him....

That's the potential downfall of this fight. If what you're saying is correct, and this is indeed a competitive fight, then how could Manny possibly stand a chance against Mayweather who is a much better boxer than Marquez?
