    It is more punishing. More sustained blows to the head. Ive rarely ever met a punchy MMA fighter. MMA results in more superficial injuries though.

    I can see why he would say that.

    I mean, I've not spent much time watching MMA, but the few occasions I have, I saw the guys grappling most of the time. This seems less damaging than taking punches to the arms, body and head for 12 rounds.

    Of course it is.

    In UFC there are no knockdowns. ONE hard blow to the head that knocks someone down most of the time makes the ref jump in and stop it before the other guy jumps on him and does more damage.

    I think boxing is way more brutal and damaging for the brain than MMA (UFC).

    I don't know that much about MMA but when I see one guy astride his fallen opponent and continuously punching his head, that looks pretty brutal to me.

    Boxing is 100x more brutal than mma.

    Permanent brain damage > superficial elbow cuts

    And I regularly follow both sports.

    MMA fighters can tap out and still continue their career, boxers can't tap out, like Ortiz did, as it will almost end their career. It's funny people think MMA is human cockfighting, yet don't have a problem with boxing.

    Distance = Danger

    Refs separate fighters punches are more deadly with the distance they travel

    Probably a lot of truth in distance= danger. In boxing the cummulative effect over time of many blows to the head.

    It's the 10 count mainly, in MMA if you get knocked loopy you likely get finished, in boxing you get up and take more punishment.

    This is widely accepted to be true. I think I remember Dana white using it to defend mma against talk that it was human cockfighting.

    way better in terms of safety imo, didnt need an article to confirm that, i participate in both sports and i find the ring a way more scarier place than the cage, nowhere to hide in a ring whereas in the cage there are always options

    A major thing is that you are actually allowed to tap-out in mma. Also most of the fights go to the ground where strikes are less damaging unless someone employs devastating ground and pound.
