He's a very talented and tough south paw with only questionable losses. He's fun to watch in almost every fight he's in.
- Good power - Durable chin - Good speed - Great workrate - Best middleweight in the world by a country mile. - Very exciting to watch. - Beat some tough fighters in the past 18 months or so.
He beat the most avoided man in boxing, not once, but twice in my opinion. Going for a brutal knockout in second fight, just to make it clear to the judges and the HBO broadcasters, that he was the man :deal. He also moved up to beat Pavlik almost as good as B-Hop did. He could, if he was brave enough, move up to 168 and beat one or two guys there also.
I think he is unproven. The 154 and 160 division aren't so hot right now. Would love to see him fight Cotto
Yeah, I admit that's true. We certainly wouldn't be harping on about him if the likes of Hopkins and Jones were around.
:good this is how i see it, is SMW too much for him? seems like he is just enjoying being a big fish in a small pond ATM
In my opinion Martinez passed the point of hype when he knocked out Williams in two rounds. That wasn't a lucky shot, you could clearly see him timing Williams and trying to land that same shots like four times, before actualy nailing him with it. He showed heart in taking it to the larger Pavlik and taking Sergei "0". Martinez gots the goods to be a top P4Per.
the best 154-160 lber in the world...hands down right now...take that for what its worth.....and as mentioned...his fights are fun to watch.....also...he would own cotto right now....and i like miguel cotto alot...but if u want to see cottos days fighting top level fighters over....get him in the ring with sergio...and they will be....and hed put chavez in a body bag....arum wont dare do either fight
Styleisticaly I'm not all that impressed. However, He's been on avery good if not great run, starting with his close defeat to Williams. At the end of the day what you do matters more than how you look and he's one of the top 5 boxers in the world in my opinion.
its not like sergio is a huge guy he is 5.10 and weighs around 157 for his fights, size would become a issue vs the guys at 168, at this moment he belongs at middleweight with the possibility of fighting at 154 if there is huge money, look what happened to abraham when he moved up.
:goodi agree with this thats one thing that makes me think :goodcool i was not to sure, i cant blame him if the opposition is simply not there. i think the ring ratings could be better but i enjoy watching martinez fight
