I had him number 5/6 on my list and Paul Williams at number 3. Well Sergio blasted his ass out of the boxing for months, so he took his spot. Then he confirmed his value in the Dziniriuk fight
Because his style relies so much on athleticism, he will have a hard time when his reflexes and speed starts to diminish much like RJJ. Martinez probably lacks even more fundementals than Roy and I think his technical flaws will probably show sooner than later given his age.
It's hard to say because at best 154-160 is and has been mediocre for a long time. Is martinez really great or is it just that paul williams pavlik etc aren't that good ?
It's probably a bit of both. Pavlik was a hype job after beating Taylor, and I think if you are being honest is quite a limited fighter. Williams is a very awkward customer, and is extremely busy during his fights, but I think he was over rated in the p4p rankings and has a poor defence. Maravilla is a very good boxer, but has only come into focus quite recently. Is that due to bad promotion or that he is a very good but not great boxer? We may never know as the great fights are just not available at 154/160!
i agree that there arent great fights at 154-160...and pavlik and williams may be overrated....but i still think sergio is the real deal...he passes the eye test...looks like the number 3 p4p guy when i watch him fight.....even though the future may not look great as far as big fights....hes got to be pleased with how dibella has moved him recently...lous done a great job...will be interesting to see what he can pull off from here though
sergio is a pretty fresh fighter for his age though....and his speed and reflexes still look pretty damn good
Perhaps a fight with Golovkin would be interesting, but not all that marketable? I like Sergio, it's just a shame that he's fighting at weights devoid of any top class opposition.
