Prime Tyson vs Douglas?

I think Douglas is a very live fighter here, but a prime Mike Tyson with head - movement and vicious body punching ability beats him. A very solid win.

If the Douglas that fought him in Tokyo is there then Mike won't have an easy night on his hands. That Buster took it to Mike and basically knocked the fight out of him. Could go either way in my opinion.

 

Douglas would have always given Mike problems that night. a peak Tyson would have done better, but you cant say definitively who would have won. .

 

Tyson was in his prime when he fought Douglas. He was only 24. The Buster Douglas that night would have beaten Tyson on any given night.

Yes his outside ring life was bad but as I said to Hatton and Hamed fans, your mental fortitude is part of your athletic personality. If you have **** training and where not focus, guest what that is on you.

I love Tyson. I love watching him fight, train, spar and in interviews. He was just the arch-typical mental midget. No speed or power or head movement is going to change that.
Mike was beaten mentally by Mike Tyson - not Buster Douglas. Douglas was just there to tip the boulder off the cliff, but the boulder was already on the cliff edge.

If you said Mike Tyson before Cus' death then yes I would say Mike KO 2nd.

Mike was in his prime, I think the thread starter is asking if Mike rematched Douglas could he have done things differently to change the result.

I say depends on Douglas, the Douglas that showed up the first would be to much for Tyson at any point. But I also think that Douglas couldnt re-create the same commitment and discipline to beating Tyson a second time round.

 

I'll give you that. He was at his prime, but not at his best. He had all that drama going on outside the ring with Givens, and didn't take the fight seriously. Even his build was not as ripped as previous fights.

No excuses though, Tyson made his own choices so if he chose to undertrain, then that's on him.

 

Douglas was distracted by the death of his mother and didn't train properly when he dominated and KO'd Prime Tyson. A prime, motivated Douglas KO's Tyson earlier than the 10th.

 

I think it had more to do with Tyson and his team under estimating Douglas' heart and resolve. He and they expected Buster to fold and quit as he had before. It just goes to show that on any given night a so called easy fight can become a difficult one.

 

Didn't train properly? Douglas has said repeatedly that the death of his mother was his training fuel. He was fighting for her that night and was more focused than any other fight (not distracted).

That's why he would have won that fight no matter what, he was fighting for his mom. He pushed on when he felt like quitting.
