I like this, its straight to the point. Adam Booth is top coach, you can tell by what he says, he is thoughtful and simply explains methods. BUT he is not a miracle worker nor devising secret plans, he uses his brain as does Haye. The reason Groves won, was because he and his team stuck to reality and Degale and his team stuck to fantasy talk, refusing to stick to the real. Haye has so far when fighting taller men in the heavyweight division, employed a low volume output strategy, this is evident against Value, Harrison, and Macranelli. You can also research his Gurov fight, he fights as a sharp shooter, poking his head slightly forward to entice his taller opponent to throw the jab straight down the middle, this is where Haye uses his (9 time out of 10) superior reflexes by moving his head side to side or ducks under, and throws big curved right hands and occasionally big left hooks. When Haye fights smaller fighters or guys his height he tends to throw alot more and become alot wilder, employing his shoulder roll method. This though should not matter, what we need to do is anaylse the fights where Haye fights men taller or bigger than him. Valuev Harrison Macarenlli Gurov For Wladimir, his gameplan is far more obvious as he never really fights anyone taller or bigger than him. Of interest if you watch him against Thompson he adopts a different strategy but anyhow back to the point. You need to look at the past fights for guys who fight in a similar way. The best bets are Chagaev and Chambers, Ibragimov smaller in height and guys who box and tend to fight off the back foot or adopt a counter puncher strategy which is what Haye does. Forget the fights with Peter, Brewster, Rahman, Austin and Thompson.
Take it with a pinch of salt but there were people reporting that Helenius struggled to lay a glove on him.
eh, I think everyone knocks out sparring partners!!!!! and everyone is supreme confident if they werent I wouldnt bother getting in the ring. Haye is confident cos he is quicker than Wlad, more mobile / athletic has a good punch and can box to a gameplan, he may not be a better boxer but in theory his speed and power should make the difference in this fight.
I was with you until the bolded, still a good post though. I dont think the Chagaev fight holds any relevance, because he has no footspeed, he's too one paced and methodical. When you have to get close to someone, cause you cant compete from range, either because they're are quicker than you(Haye), or because they are just better at dictating from range (Wlad), you can get marooned in no mans lands getting picked apart from range. You have to be able to get your feet into position to let your hands go. I disagree about the Ibragimov comparison to. Ibragimov is a southpaw, so the whole dynamics of the fight change, as you generally have to be more assertive to land against a lefty, unless he's coming foward and allowing you to use your legs to offset him( movement) I think Chambers, Byrd are closer to Haye than anyone. Maybe Byrd used less movement against Wlad, but his bread and butter, like Haye, is generally counter punching. Chambers is the same, although I guess you could say Chambers used a little more movement than Byrd(against Wlad). Both Byrd and Chambers are as quick as Haye, if not quicker imo.
Haye has been saying he'd do it for years, he can't suddenly stop now and say otherwise. He's dug himself a hole. I'm certain Haye is nowhere near as confident in beating Wlad as he makes it out to be. He isn't stupid, he knows he's in against a superiour boxer and his chances are slim.
He's not significantly quicker than Wlad imo. Wlad has very underrated speed which people are overlooking imo. I think Haye probably has better footspeed than Wlad if anything, but I think the key here, is that whilst he might be more mobile, fleeted footed, he has to get his feet into position (get close)to let his hands go, cause he most likely wont be able to compete from range, but does Haye have the best footwork? One of the criticisms I've heard leveled at Haye, is how sloppy his footwork is. This is not to say I rule Haye out, he definitely has opportunity's to win, but I think there is more to it than that.
I think one of the most important things Haye can do in this fight is take Wlad's jab away early, even if he's not landing anything significant of his own. This makes for a bit of a stinker of a fight, but I think this is what his plan will be. We all know how important Wlad's jab is to him - it's his 'safety blanket' it keeps fighters out of his front garden and it sets up his whole offence. He won't throw a right hand if his jab isn't landing. I think Hayes job for the first couple of rounds will be to make Wlad fall short and hit air with his jab. Then use a lot of feints to put Wlad into defence and get himself time to move/turn him again. If Wlad's jab isn't landing as it usually would, and his concerned about being hit back, what will he do? Will he go into a shell and cut his punch output, or will he being less conservative a start throwing right hand leads and hooks? Obviously this theory and that actual practice of carrying it out are two different things, and for that reason I still have Wlad as the favourite - but this is my take on how Haye will approach the fight.
Problem with the Byrd fight is that it was 5 and half years ago....thats a huge time span and really cant use this to gauge where Wladimir is now. He is alot more defensive even from 2006...without doubt Wlad is at his most confident and best now. BUT he is more defensive, and does not attack that way any more even though Manny wants him to. Harrison is a southpaw so the Ibragimov thing is right. What im trying to do is stick to reality, and try to find scientific examples of what each man has done, we can also watch interviews...i believe both men are very confident they will win but I also believe from judging the fights they have had before, that it will be a real chess game, both men will not commit to all out attacks....notice Haye team is wearing Blue tops, this is there code word for cold and analytical whereas when they where red it mean to attack, be aggressive. The first 3 or 4 rounds without doubt we will hear boos and not much action.
Lovely words, his jab is his defensive blanket...really good analysis for people to understand. This is a good discussion, as we are putting together a proper understanding of the fight, stick to facts, stick to reality. I will also say this, whoever wins, they will have beaten their best opponent to date if not in their entire careers, forget the hype that comes after the fight. Wlad along with his brother has been the best fighter of the last 8 years, this in real terms is a pretty outstanding achievement. I really believe Haye is the 3rd or 4th best, along with C. Byrd.
yeah they are wearing blue tops now.....for cool as you say red for danger, i dont think they will wear red on fight night..... i think they will wear black, for the powers of "The Dark Lord" and his charge to have the true "Dark Energy"
bollocks, wlad dictates to everyone.... haye done that to simply say to wlad that your not the boss of me..... DARK LORD TACTICS
To be honest m8 I wouldnt know how good his footwork is but he looks pretty nifty to me, I do actually think Haye is alot quicker than Wlad or perhaps its the mobility thing, basically I think he is quick enough to get in and out without getting caught with a Wlad bomb, or Im hoping he is anyway.
