According to Jay Larking Don King and Benard's laywer had agreed for it to happen in America with Bernard getting about $3 million US. The next day Bernard is supposed to have backed out on the deal demanding $6 million. I'll have to right the quote from the book sometime because I haven't found it on the net yet.

 

Also, throwing a hundred punches does not mean your landing much. This was the case for this particular fight.

 

Let's be honest he was weight drained against Taylor and Taylor was a really hungry cat in that fight. Taylor was very good in his short peak and Hopkins clearly looked a lot better after moving to 175lb. Taylor pretty much beat everybody Hopkins had fought more convincingly than Hopkins did on his way up.

The Calzaghe fight happend over 3 years before Hopkins beat Pascal as well.

No you're right. I remember somone here showed me an article which quoted Larkin (RIP):

You see, Calzaghe fans are always bringing up Hopkins' post-Calzaghe wins as a way of somehow proving that he was still near his prime. You know you have a serious problem when you have to rely heavily on the resume of others to bolster your own guy's.

And like I said, this doesn't take away from the fact that Hopkins was past-prime when he fought Calzaghe, because the Pascal and Pavlik wins were carefully picked to an extent. And, you may not like it, but I'm gonna say it....a prime B-Hop beats a prime Calzaghe convincingly. Skill-wise, they're a level apart.

Look at the difference between the calzahe fight and the pascal fight

Hopkins was dominant same as the pavlik fight and boxed at his own tempo.

Against calzaghe all he did was hug joe like he was his long lost brother, foul and feign injury for a rest. That in itself should show anyone that hopkins was struggling in the fight which he lost clearly atsch

 

A lot of those were pitty pat shots so this number is not really shocking.

 

It is when there was a knockdown involved and he wins.
