You know that the people in charge back then did everything they could to not have Larry surpass Rocky Marciano's record ..
Great lists these. Hopefuly I'll have more time to look in detail at another point. Little Fab Four obsessed for me this list (not without reason!), Sanchez-Gomez would be higher, probably Pryor-Arguello and Chavez-Rosario too. 4. The cynic would say Curry was weight drained.
You're a breath of fresh air Pop. Wish more posters would put this much effort into their posts. A much needed spike into a dying forum. For what it's worth I'd have probably gone like this: 1. Duran-Leonard I 2. Leonard-Hearns I 3. Leonard-Hagler 4. Curry-Starling II 5. Kalambay-McCallum I 6. Pryor-Arguello I 7. Taylor-McGirt 8. Hearns-Cuevas 9. Hearns-Duran 10. Holyfield-Qawi I 11. I'm sure they can... Mante, lay your obscure gems on the table :good
Yeah it is a good thread this... I'd love to see a 70's list... Must have taken a phenomenal effort ranking them all. I think the number 1 choices have been straightforward for these 3 decades but the ranking from there on in can be up to debate. Usually when I do my big posts they're all completely concrete and very little about them is subjective so it takes a lot less effort on my part.
Brilliant idea, but it's a hard slog to do the write ups... If Pop wants to give it a go and needs a bit of advice along the way I'd be glad to help. :good
As you are aware, these threads take a ****ing long time to write. There's tracking down as much footage as possible from that decade, which often involves having to send away for fights that aren't on youtube or wbva, there's watching and writing reports on fights, there's doing lots of research from the internet and books, then making a long list, applying criteria, getting it down to a short list, deciding on a fifty... and then getting it into some sort of order which I feel comfortable with, which takes a long time and many, many revisions. And then I need to write the ****ing thing! This one was almost 6,200 words once it was all done! I will do a 70s one at some point, but have no idea when I'll be motivated enough to do it. Maybe someone else will be inspired by this thread and will give it a go. Whenever I do start my own 70s one, you will as always be my first privatemail SS. :good
Looks like you guys already have the bulk of the best ones covered:good A few suggestions that could round out a top 100 Fidel Bassa vs Dave McAuley 2 Hilario Zapata vs Joey Olivo\Nakajima 2 Jung Koo Chang vs Torres 1 and 3 Khaokor Galaxy vs Sung-Kil Moon 2 Nana Konadu vs Gilberto Roman Gilberto Roman vs Sugar Baby Rojas and Jiro Watanabe Jiro Watanabe vs Payao Poonterat 2 Shoji Oguma vs Chan-Hee Park 1 and 3 Jeff Chandler vs Eijiro Murata 2 and 3/Gaby Canizales Miguel Lora vs Alberto Davila 1 and Wilfredo Vazquez Raul Perez vs Gaby Canizales jeff Fenech vs Samart Payakaroon and Greg Richardson Azumah Nelson vs Villasana 2 and Martinez 2 Livingstone Bramble vs Tyrone Crawley Pernell Whitaker vs Roger Mayweather Donald Curry vs Colin Jones Lloyd Honeyghan vs Gianfranco Rosi Buster Drayton vs Mark kaylor Mike McCallum vs Luigi Minchillo Julian jackson vs In-Chul Baek Alan Minter vs Vito Antuofermo 2 Marvin Hagler vs Wilford Scypion/Fully Obel 1 and 2 Mustapha hamsho vs Bobby"i'll never quit!" Fantastic stuff. Jogged the memory for those I'd seen and gave me a chance to add to the 'must procure' list for those I haven't. Top job, well done indeed!
funny how the best win of the 80s came in 1980, the 90s in 1990 and the 00s in 2000. some great work, popkins, thanks!
stop being lazy and get on with it! ya wasting precious time! or you could hand over the assignment to team elite and see how they cope with it :yep:yep
