Anybody ever consider the possibility that Ortiz is a Tune up for Sergio Martinez?

It doesn't matter what they bring to the table, Floyd's not budging on the random blood and urine testing (and I don't blame him), so unless Pacquiao does, that fight is not happening.

So on to the next one.

Floyd may also choose to fight Spadafora, maybe to shake off some rust, but I can see him going after a fight with Martinez if the money is right.

And I'm not one of the Sergidiots that think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I think Mayweather would win and make it look pretty easy, but I still think it'd be a great fight to watch. IMO Martinez is still pretty small for a middleweight so the weight (moving down) shouldn't be a problem, and in reality he was rightfully the 154lb champ also. Interesting Match up... We shall see. I only made this thread just to say I said it first if it does happen :p

Yeah, like Floyd is going to take that type of risk.

Thats what I thought... either that or hes gonna ask Pac to go up to middleweight in the hope that the lure of another belt in another division will be enough.

    I never thought of that.

Honestly, floyd could avoid Pac altogether and if he took and beat Martinez that would put his name and resume above Pac's in a lot of peoples eyes.

That's the kind of power move I wouldn't expect out of Mayweather, but if he did do that his detractors would be grasping at straws to knock him (at least career wise).

he has a bigger chance of beating pac than beating sergio, I think sergio stops him, also pac is a huge money fight while martinez would make him normal money, floyd doesnt care about legacy and hates taking risks, it is completely unlogical to assume he takes ortiz for martinez, its probably even unlogical to think he does it for pac as well.

Exactly. But his detractors do that now so it wouldn't be any different. They're always reaching.

As talented as he is and as good as he is I still can't see Mayweather taking this kind of risk. I would love to be wrong but I think Mayweather beats Ortiz and then we don't see him in the ring again for another year or two and then he'll face another guy like Ortiz-a good fighter but a big underdog to Mayweather.

Sergio is a fast, left handed MW. Floyd is a WW. There isn't much public demand for this fight. It's not going to happen.
